Course Description
This course combines community engagement with academic instruction, emphasizing critical and reflective thinking. Students explore historical, socio-economic, political, and cultural factors shaping the host community. Fieldwork focuses on empowerment, education, and the arts. Students evaluate civic responsibility locally and globally, develop a framework for servant leadership, and consider the complex impacts (positive and negative) of service.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
- Understand cultural, socio-economic, and political factors affecting the host community and country/region.
- Build a foundation for becoming globally minded individuals.
- Develop a clear understanding of civic engagement with a roadmap for personal and community application.
- Examine how organizations and governments approach community empowerment.
- Strengthen critical thinking and reflective practice.

Late Work: −10 points per day late; not accepted after 7 days except for documented emergencies/illness.
