
MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIPS GUIDELINES
- CHAMPIONSHIP SITES:
- Cavalcade administration will seek out show sites and sponsors willing to host championships for the circuit.
- Cavalcade of Bands will be considered the “championship host” and be entitled to all proceeds from ticketing and Cavalcade-contracted vendors at the site.
- Cavalcade will be responsible for paying the judging panel for the event and any associated staff members employed by Cavalcade to help ensure the smooth operation of the event.
- If a championship show is held at a member school’s site, the band director (or designated representative) wll be considered the “site host”. The site host (and their associated school district and/or booster organization) will be entitled to all profit from concessions sold on site the day of the event.
- On a yearly basis, contracts will be developed between Cavalcade and the site host to cover financial responsibilities of all other costs not outlined in this section.
- CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT:
- Scheduling and location for championships shall be determined by the Administration & Board based on the best organization of bands for each stadium location on each day.
- The format of all championship shows will follow the same format as regular season shows, with the exception of the following:
- Awards ceremonies may be held at a later than normal time to accommodate all groups performing.
- Restrictions on warmup locations may be instituted depending on the location of the championship show.
- DELAYING, POSTPONEMENT:
- Any decision to delay, postpone, or cancel the championship contest will be made in consultation with the Board of Directors, Administration Team, and site host. Cavalcade of Bands reserves the right to delay, postpone or cancel the championship event at any time should an act of God or any unforeseen circumstance present a threat or risk of injury to or in any way jeopardize the well-being of the participants and/or spectators.
- JUDGING PANELS:
- Judging panels for championships will be scheduled by the Judging Coordinator as early as possible to secure the best possible adjudicators for the event.
- Judges for championships should have adjudicated elsewhere in the circuit on that caption at least (1) other show during the season, however this is not a guarantee and/or requirement.
- All general effect captions will be doubled, with the scores averaged together.
- Cavalcade reserves the right to add an additional tabulator and/or chief judge to championship shows in order to keep the show running smoothly.
- PERFORMANCE ORDER & SEEDING:
- Bands will be ranked within their class and division based on the average of their highest (2) two scores they received during the season.
- Each division and class will be split into two halves. Each half will then be randomized for the actual performance order.
- The bottom half of each class/division will perform first.
- If there are an odd number of total bands in each class/division, the larger group will be in the second half of the performance block..
- If a division exceeds (20) bands, the class will be split into separate shows for the purposes of championships.
- Odd seeds will perform in one show, while even seeds perform in the other.
- Each show will be split according to the formula in 5.2.
- SCORING:
- All regular season scoring philosophies will apply at Championships.
- General effect judges are doubled at Championships.
- Final scoring for placement will be from the average of both judges in each caption.
- Any A Class bands earning a medalist position in their conference will be promoted to Open Class for the following season.
- A band director may request a judging review for the purpose of returning to the lower class.
- AWARDS FORMAT:
- All groups will be present on the front sideline (or on the home stands) for the awards ceremony.
- Directors will present placement awards to their own groups.
- All performing ensembles will receive a plaque noting their performance at Championships.
- Medalist groups will receive a larger plaque with a picture frame..
- Gold medalist groups will also receive a championship flag.
- All groups placing 4th or lower will receive a “finalist” plaque.
- All students will receive a commemorative patch. Students in groups who medal at Championships will receive an additional patch noting this accomplishment.
- The highest scoring group in each open division will receive a traveling trophy. This trophy must be returned back to Cavalcade Administration no later than two weeks prior to the next year’s championship date.
- Specialty awards will be awarded in the following areas:
