Year 5

Trees and Rainforests

- Respond to artwork from Henri rousseau, Piet Mondrian, David Hockney and Abel Rodriguez

- Develop observational drawing skills

- Develop own response through experiments- e.g. painting, printmaking and collage

- Create own composition using layering, foreground and background and colour

Landscapes, Seascapes and Cityscapes

- Investigate the work of a range of artists from different times and cultures- Monet’s seascapes, Jim Edward’s cityscapes, Georgia O’Keefe’s landscapes

- Experiment with pattern, colour- blending, detail and textures

- Be able to create a final piece using own choice of material

Mythical Creatures

-Be able to use detail and imagination to create a mythical creature

- understand how to develop ideas through printmaking, drawing and collage

- Know that artists use different ideas and resources to create something new

Matisse

-Know how to use bold colours and shapes in the style of Matisse

- Investigate cutting, layering and  collage techniques

- Be able to create a composition using cut outs

Year 6

The Pitmen Painters

- Research observational drawing skills from real life objects- shading and textures of artefacts and pitmen clothing

- Experiment with charcoal, pastels and monoprinting

- Develop a composition using experiments as a starting point

Know about the works of Norman Cornish

         Indian Patterns

- Understand how present day  Western art has been influenced by traditional and historic Indian Patterns

- Create individual designs and prints using traditional images and methods- e.g. traditional wooden block printing, press printing

- Experiment with a range of techniques and materials

    Moving People

- Investigate how painters, sculptors and photographers represent moving people in art

- Develop images and artefacts of moving people using oil pastels and wire

- Understand that art can take many forms

         Under the Sea

-Explore different techniques e.g. 3d model making, claywork, printmaking, wax resist, collage

-Make links with climate change and endangered creatures

-Understand the works of Paul Klee and environmental artists Alejandro Duran: washed up series, Angela Haseltine Pozzi: Washed Ashore sculpture

Environmental Art

- Explore the works of Nancy Holt, Andy Goldsworthy and Christo and investigate their interaction with nature

- Use natural forms to create pieces of artwork- when does a stick become a piece of art?

- Look at ways of recording environmental art, e.g. photography, sketches, words

Year 7

Creature Features

- Develop an understanding of how artists are inspired by the world around them.

- Research shape, textures and features of a variety of insects.

- Experiment with a range of techniques including tonal sketches, pen and wash, colour- blending, monoprinting and collage.

- Create a final 3D artefact inspired by research

Graffiti Art

- Investigate the concept ‘what is art?’ and look at the artists Banksy, Shamsia Hassani and John Burgerman

- Select styles and techniques to produce a multilayered composition with strong reference to their own personalities and interests through a mixed media piece e.g..paint, collage, printing techniques etc.

Developing Perspective (1 and 2 point)

- Understand and apply the rules of perspective drawing to create a composition.  

- Be able to use  vanishing points work and apply this and other perspective techniques to drawings of interior and exterior compositions.

- Use and apply different techniques in order to produce own perspective drawing composition of their choice.

     Architecture

-Know that architecture comes in different styles, e.g. Gaudi

- Understand that different materials, shapes and forms are used to create buildings

- Recognise iconic buildings in the local area

-Be able to create a 3D structure using architectural features

      Mechanical Features

- Look at the work of Paolozzi

- Create a portrait in the style of Paolozzi using mechanical objects

-Work as a team to produce a stop motion animation with Ipads and mechanical bits and bos to create a mechanical face, e.g. paper clips, bolts, meccano,  etc

Optical Art

- Investigate the works of Bridget Riley

- Experiment with line, colour and pattern to create optical illusions

- Develop a 3d structure to incorporate an optical illusion

Year 8

Transformations and Identity

- Understand how different artists use different styles to change a portrait including Surrealism and photography

- Investigate how to create a tonal drawing of realistic portraits and eyes using correct proportions..

-Develop ideas to transform the features using different techniques e.g. clay eyes

- Experiment with contemporary ideas to create an edited photograph and painting to portray individuality and identity

Picasso Portraits

- Investigate the techniques of Cubism

- Create Cubist portraits through a range of techniques- collage, textures, colour, 3d form

- Develop colour blending, layering and compositional skills

Animal  Mask- Making

- Development of ideas into a 3D artefact using research to inform designs.

-  Experiment with mod-roc to create a mask through layering techniques.

- Apply finishing skills with acrylic and colour blending techniques.

   Pop Art Designs

- Develop an awareness of mass culture and identify how art has an influence on our everyday culture

- Research patterns and colour using Warhol and Lichtenstein for reference

- Create a 3d paper mache shoe using pop art techniques

Food

-Understand how artists are inspired by food-e.g. Claes Oldenburg, Lorraine Shemesh, Arcimboldo

-Develop observational close up drawings using a range of mark making techniques- e.g. biro, acetate, pen and wash

-Be able to create a piece of artwork using food as inspiration
