Preston Hot Springs Town-County Library

1. Services to the Public: Knit Wit will continue through the winter. Knit Wit starts at 1pm on Fridays. Book discussion group will discuss The Cactus by Sarah Haywood October 3, 2024 and The Lost Book Shop by Evie Woods October 24, 2024. The book discussion group will then take a break until March 2025. Paper crafts will continue through the winter without designated projects on Saturdays from 1pm to 4pm. Books in Search of Kids is done at the Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. Look for them at the Christmas sale at the Hot Springs Senior Center and at the Lonepine Bizarre. WIC meets clients by appointment, in the back office at the library, the first Wednesday of the month. The Job Service meets with people by appointment the first Thursday of the month.

2. Collections: The book sale is over. We will start the weeding process the first part of November.

3.  Technology: The wiring upgrade is completed. We have contracted with Hot Springs Telephone Company for Technical Support. They are servicing the new hardware that came with the wiring upgrade.

4. General Administrative Business: We painted the shed in August, it turned out great. The International Observe the Moon party September 14, 2024 behind the library was a success. Keiko Ogawa, Lynda Schmeidbauer, Nick Pavelich, Mark Cometti, and Matilda played beautiful music for a nice crowd. We had 2 telescopes set on the moon and Rube Wrightsman brought his telescope and had it pointed at Saturn. Our final count was approximately 50. We had up Christmas lights and a couple tables of produce for a produce exchange. Wonderful down home fun in a nice setting. We’ll definitely do something like this again. Special thanks to Ronan for loaning us their telescope.  The library board will have their annual Fall Fundraiser October 12, 2024. They will be serving taco salads and tacos this year.

The library board will meet October 16, 2024 at 5pm for their monthly meeting.
