Global Conflicts
New Guy Probation Period (Edited: 22/06/24)
What is a probation period and why we do it
When a new user joins Global Conflicts, they are assigned the “New Guy” role.
To earn membership, the user must complete 4 weekends.
While a user is assigned the new guy role, said user will be subject to a probation period, which means Global Conflicts reserves the right to end a user’s access to community without following the punishment SOP guidelines.
The purpose of the new guy role is not only to identify the user as new and stop Discord image spam, but it is also a period in which the staff team can deliberate and decide if we wish for the user to become part of our community permanently and receive membership, based on their actions and such, in-game and out of game.
The probation period can also be seen as a user review period.
Reviewing
During a user's probation, they will be subject to review by the staff team, observing factors such as, how often the user breaks rules, their general conduct in and out of game, if they maintain our standards, how they interact with the community, if they try to maintain the health of gameplay, ability to listen and follow commanders/orders, willingness to learn and progress, how/if they give feedback, and so on..
While we understand nobody is perfect, we also understand and agree to a set of rules and standards, and as such, expect other users joining the community to adhere to these also.
We aren’t looking for professional soldiers or users who know everything, we aren’t trying to create the most skillful Arma unit/community out there, we simply look for healthy well balanced fun gameplay.
Fun is the ultimate goal. The point is to have fun - in our case, we strive for organized, well disciplined fun
Deliberation and Decisions
Reviews should be seen as passive, not active.
When a new user joins the community, we don’t instantly begin a formal internal review with scoring, notes, etc, but are simply observed in and out of the game to see how they generally are, if they fit in well.
The general consensus is that unless a user comes to the staff's attention, either by the staff raising the concern or the playerbase, the user will be deemed an ideal fit.
If a user does happen to come to the staff’s attention because of X issue(s), then typically the staff team will deliberate over the course of X amount of time, to find a solution, which could come in any form.
A new user is not subject to the strike system and regular community punishment SOPs like members, but are subject to the same rules and standards.
As a result, the staff team does not need to necessarily follow its punishment guidance SOPs on the matter(s), and can instead choose to move directly to permanent bans or serious punishment quicker.
Failing probation
If a user hasn’t directly broken any rules and gone through a previous motion, but their general character isn’t seen as an ideal fit for the community, whether that be due to poor attitude, poor general conduct, inability to follow the chain of command, etc, then we also reserve the right to fail a user’s probation.
If this is the case, the user will receive a 3 month ban, in which then they can rejoin if they wish.
Re-joining and failing again after a failed probation
Once a failed probation ban has expired, the user in question is allowed to rejoin the community once again. Their ban will automatically be lifted without deliberation.
The user will be given the new-guy role and will be expected to adhere to the same rules, standards, principles, and probation period as before, including any changes in the community since their ban.
If a user’s probation period needs to be failed a 2nd time, the ban will be doubled, therefore making their 2nd ban 6 months in length.
For each ban relating to a failed probation, the next ban will double in length over the previous.
