Web-based Instructional Strategies (WBIS)
04.06.2019 from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm (Show, Tell, and Make Your Own)
Participants will create their own infrastructure for the 3 vital components of Web-based Instructional Strategies:
a) A Curricular Google Site for their students to access supplementary multimedia materials curated and sequenced for classroom instruction to augment textbook and scaffold learning.
b) A Master Quiz on Google Forms for Self-correcting Multiple-choice Pre and Post Tests to: Assess Prior Knowledge, Get Early Engagement, Plan Instruction, and Document Growth.
c) Deploying Projects and Reports on Google Classroom using Docs Templates, Scoring and annotating on a tablet, as well as, using Chromecast for students to present their reports.
My Bachelor's degree is in Chemical Engineering and I worked as; an Industrial Engineer in a Steel Mill, University Research Transportation Study, and owned my own Business. I taught Special Education for 15 years before teaching Chemistry and Physics. I have successfully applied Special Education techniques to scaffold and supercharge student learning. My students learn and use technology in all their classroom activities.
The topics are sequenced to the order that I present these to the class in 12 Modules. A Study Guide and a packet of word-problems are given for each module and these are book-ended by Pre/Post tests.
I have created 25 items self-correcting multiple-choice quizzes on Google forms for each module. Students take a Pretest at the beginning of a new topic, they complete the vocabulary definitions and Essential Questions, then take to post test and the end.
My students create reports of Google Classroom with Docs Templates and are assisted by Apps like translation, spell and grammar check, as well as, insert data charts, graphics, and citations.
These sites support EL and Sp. Ed. Students and also supercharge students who may have difficulty acquiring basic scientific knowledge from written text. In your sites, you can curate short animations/videos and sequence these in the order of the class discussion.
The Master Quiz will have sorting fields and settings that may allow quizzes to be used departmentally as common assessments, safeguard against cheating, provide instant feedback to students and guide the presentation of your lesson.
Google Docs Templates will allow you to add writing prompts for each section, as well as, allow you to monitor the work in progress (who has not started). Students can do peer review. You can also annotate their draft for improvements with a Tablet. Students can use Chromecast to share their work.
