Submitting Other Document Types in WVS Courses

Check with your coach if you are not sure whether you have Google Drive access through your school. If you do not have access to Google Docs through your local school district, read the information below to ensure you are able to submit documents to your online classes.

Choose a Word Processing Program

A word processing program allows you to create a variety of different documents on your computer or mobile device. Ask your district coach for more information on how to access one of these programs on your school or personal device. For example, your school may offer access to Microsoft Word or Apple Pages. LibreOffice is a free word processing program that you can download to a personal computer using Windows, macOS, or Linux operating systems. You may need permission to download LibreOffice or any other program to a school device.

Once you have the ability to create documents on your computer, continue with the information below.

Set Up Computer Folders

Create a folder for your online course(s) on your computer. You can make different folders for each class. Whenever you create a new document, make sure it is saved in the correct folder.

Organizing Your Documents

We recommend that you name your documents in a way that it will be helpful for you to find them and know which course they are for. It is helpful to include your Course Name, Assignment Name and Your Name. For example, "Biology 1 Lab 1: Meiosis vs Mitosis Jane T” or “World History 4.02 Reflection Sam W.

Save your work often! Your computer’s word processing software will not automatically save your work like Google Docs does. Lastly, make sure you are saving your files to the correct folder.

Using RTF or PDF File Types

Before uploading your documents to an assignment dropbox, make sure the file type is a universal one that can be downloaded and viewed on any computer. To do this, save your files as rich text format (.rtf) or portable document format (.pdf). This will help avoid any issues with program compatibility - not everyone uses Apple Pages for example.

Submitting A File for an Assignment

Once your file is saved and in the right format, you can upload it to your assignment dropbox. Check out the Buzz help article: “How do I add attachments to an Assignment activity?
