Volunteer Opportunities

Case Manager Assistant (Internship):

Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:30pm (or as scheduled)

Time Expectancy: Consistent schedule of 2-3 days (4 hours minimum) per week is preferred. Offered by semester, but can be altered to fit personal schedules.

Will require an orientation

Age requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older

Supervisors: Assigned Case Manager and Volunteer Coordinator

Our case manager assistant program needs interns to assist with anything that our case managers need from case file review to helping our clients with medical appointments. This is a very important opportunity and the interns who fill these roles must be dedicated and consistent to ensure that our case managers will have help. This opportunity is sure to create wonderful relationship between interns and our Case Managers as well as the other staff members at the International Center.

Immigration Program Assistant (Internship):

Our immigration program needs interns to assist with anything that our Immigration Program Manager needs. This is a very important opportunity and the intern(s) who fill this role must be dedicated and consistent to ensure that our Immigration Program Manager will have help. This opportunity is sure to create wonderful relationship between interns and our Immigration Program Manger as well as the other staff members at the International Center. This position is currently filled, but please inquire if you are interested.

Communications Assistant (Internship)

Monday-Friday 9:00am-4:30pm (or as scheduled)

Age requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older

Supervisors: Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator

Donors, volunteers, and community members play a vital role in the work of the International Center. Maintaining consistent communications with them is necessary for ensuring the ongoing success of refugee resettlement in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The primary responsibilities of the Communications Assistant are updating the website, managing social media accounts, online community outreach through email newsletters and other platforms, and receptionist duties. A completed or in-progress degree in communications, public relations, marketing, advertising, or other similar field of study is preferred but not required.

 

Employment Program Assistant (Internship):

Our employment program needs interns to assist with anything that our Employment Program Manager needs. This is a very important opportunity and the intern(s) who fill this role must be dedicated and consistent to ensure that our Employment Program Manager will have help. This opportunity is sure to create wonderful relationship between interns and our Employment Program Manger as well as the other staff members at the International Center.

 

Learning and Play Place (Kids’ Area):

Monday-Thursday 10:00am-1:00pm

Time Expectancy: Consistent schedule of 1-2 days (or 4 hours) per week is preferred

Will require an orientation

Age requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older

Supervisors: LPC Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator

During the school year, help care for young children while their parents participate in ESL classes. A consistent schedule is requested for this opportunity!

ESL Assistant/Instructor:

Monday-Thursday 10:00am-1:00pm

Time Expectancy: Schedule decided by volunteer and ESL Instructor

Will require an orientation

Age requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older

Supervisors: ESL Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator

Assist our ESL Instructors in testing students, preparing materials for class, and other duties for the class. We have two different classes available to help with, beginner and intermediate. You do not have to have any teaching experience to help with our ESL classes! If you comfortable enough to teach a class, materials will be provided.

 

Go Bus Trainer:

Tuesday 9:30am-11:30am (by appointment only)

Time Expectancy: Schedule decided by Volunteer and Go Bus Training Supervisor

Help train newly arrived refugees to use Bowling Green’s public transportation service! Maps, guides, and interpreters are provided. All that’s missing is you!

Special Events

Special Events are not planned on a weekly based schedule

Time Expectancy: Schedule decided by volunteer and Special Event Coordinator

Supervisor: Special Event Coordinator

Being a Special Events volunteer is perfect for the person with a busy schedule. Although we do not have weekly special events, you can still help the International Center through special events like World Refugee Day and Cooking with Cultures! This is a perfect opportunity for groups and individuals who are seeking to help at the International Center from one to five hours a month or for people who love to plan events!

Organization and Beautification/Donation Room Organization:

Saturday 10:30am-11:30am (and/or Friday when scheduled with Coordinator)

Time Expectancy: Up to volunteer/groups

Supervisor: Volunteer Coordinator

Friday and Saturday are great days to get stuff done here at the International Center! We don’t offer ESL classes at that time, so there are very few clients in the building. There are several opportunities for volunteers and large groups! Both days can be used for donation room organization, landscaping and other outdoor activities, and other types of office organization. This is a perfect opportunity for groups and individuals who are seeking to help at the International Center from one to five hours a month. If Fridays don’t work, other arrangements can be made with advanced planning.

New Life Project/Civics Classes:

Tuesday and Thursday 2:00pm-3:00pm

Time Expectancy: Once or twice a week (as decided by Volunteers and the New Life Project Coordinators)

Will require an orientation

Supervisors: NLP Coordinators

This program allows us to provide courses for our clients to educate them on numerous topics including domestic violence, human rights, and legal services. The New Life Project needs volunteers who would be willing to teach classes regarding civil rights, the US judicial process, and their overall rights as refugees. We also provide a sewing class through NLP, so we are not limited to just civics. If you have a class in mind, please come share your idea with us!

 

New Life Project/Sewing Classes:

Once a Month (Monday evenings)

Time Expectancy: Once a month for an hour

Will require an orientation

Supervisor: NLP Coordinator

Through the NLP Grant, this program allows us to provide courses and materials to our female clients to educate them on how to sew small items to provide for their families. Although we do not currently need volunteers to help us with this class, we still want you to know these classes are available to our female clients. If you are interested, please still inquire!

Mentorship Program

Mentor’s Scheduled Time (with Volunteer Coordinator and Mentee Family)

Time Expectancy: At least 2 hours a week for a minimum of 3 months

Will require an orientation

Age requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older

Supervisors: Executive Director and Volunteer Coordinator

Mentors at the International Center of Kentucky are caring, responsible, and reliable volunteers who serve as trusted friends and guides to our clients. They help ensure that their mentee clients develop important academic and life skills through their support and friendship. Such opportunities include: helping clients cook a meal, grocery shopping for their family, sorting through bills, and providing extra support when learning English as a second language. The Mentorship Program is brand new to the International Center and our first round of mentors are about to start. The second round will begin shortly. Please inquire if you are interested!

New Growth Farm

Monday’s from 10:30am-11:30am (April-October 2017)

Time Expectancy: 1-5 hours a week (preferred) or 1-5 hours a month

Will require an orientation

Age requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older

Supervisor: New Growth Farmers Market Coordinator

Calling all farmers, gardeners, and agricultural enthusiasts! We have just started our newest program, the New Growth Farmers Market. Our clients are learning to plant, harvest, and sell their own crops! We are looking for volunteers to help us show our clients how to plant seeds and harvest the crops.
