Synopsis:

The purpose of this document is to acknowledge the guidance in the original middle school reopening plan from August 2020, and to update the current mitigating measures for in-person learning in Shawnee Mission School District middle schools. A variety of factors were considered in the creation of this document - including each building’s remote and in-person student count. In addition, a number of proposals were considered including limiting daily passing periods and moving to a middle school block schedule to mirror the high school in-person schedule. These proposals were not implemented because the return on each of the proposals would not significantly impact our mitigation efforts. Although each middle school has minor differences in their mitigation strategies based on unique building needs, we are unified in our effort to provide the safest and most effective mitigation efforts we can while acknowledging the reality that social distancing is not possible in every in-person scenario.

This document has been reviewed by middle school building leadership teams and building NEA reps.
