All timelines are updated here throughout the semester.

We request the candidates to periodically visit this page and read these timelines and guidelines carefully.

Instructions:

  1. You may enroll in any number of NPTEL courses you wish.

 Please login to the exam registration form and select the exam date as per the availability in the exam city chosen by you. Only those exam cities which are mentioned in the exam registration form are available for this semester. You may choose which is most suitable to you.

  1. You can take one exam in the forenoon session and another during the afternoon session on the same day. You will be provided with different hall tickets for different sessions.
  2. You cannot take more than 2 exams a day. The exam date given in the exam registration form is based on the availability in that exam city.
  3. You need to have the same registered email ID for all courses to have two different sessions on the same day in the same exam centre. There is no option to select any particular session. NPTEL will allot the session (Forenoon / Afternoon) as per the availability and the sessions will not clash. You need to take the exam in the same session which is allotted to you which will be mentioned in the hall ticket. There is no option to take the exam in a different session.
  4. NPTEL certificates are issued based on the assignment score (which includes all types of graded assessments available within the course, such as assignments, programming tests, quizzes, subjective assignments etc., as applicable) and the final examination score, subject to meeting the prescribed eligibility criteria for the respective course.
  5. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that they have obtained sufficient assignment and/or programming test scores to qualify for certification if they intend to take the final examination and earn a certificate.
  6. All graded assessments available on the portal are evaluated out of 100 marks, and the assignment component is calculated based on the course-specific evaluation scheme.
  7. We request you to please check the ​calculation logic and the ​eligibility​ criteria ​mentioned in the course page & announcement page to get the e-certificate.
  8. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that he/she will download the hall ticket at their end before the exam. We also suggest that you check your inbox and spam/junk boxes & promotion /social labels for emails.
  9. Candidates can cancel the registration before the last date and take the refund (refer column K in the below table based on the exam date).  Cancellation after the last date will not be allowed. CHARGEBACK through the bank will  not be entertained.​​
  10. NOTE: After the last date for data changes (refer to column J in the table below based on the exam date), if you request any changes to your personal information (name, DOB, photo, signature, SC/ST and PWD certificates), NPTEL will charge you an extra 200 rupees for each change.

Immediate previous semester courses (July 2025 or Jan 2026  as applicable) are open for exam Registration July 2026

It is mandatory to enroll again in the current July 2026 semester to obtain fresh assignments of the current July 2026 semester.  If you don’t enroll again in this current July 2026 semester and if you register for the September/October 2026 exams with the previous enrollment email ID, the assignment scores of the immediate previous semester in which the course was run (July 2025 or Jan 2026 as applicable) only will be considered towards certification.

If you have enrolled in the same course in the immediate previous semester and have submitted the assignments and also submitted the assignment in the current semester (July 2026), the best assignments scores among the current July 2026 semester and the immediate previous semester will be considered.

 

It is the responsibility of the candidates to ensure that you have enough assignment scores in the previous semester (in which the course was run; July 2025 or Jan 2026 as applicable) which is required to meet the eligibility criteria to obtain a certificate if you are registering for the July 2026 exam without enrolling in the same course for the July 2026 semester. The assignment scores can be checked from the progress tab of the respective courses in swayam.gov.in

 

You need to have the same email ID in both the current semester & the immediate previous semester (the semester in which the course was run; July 2025 or Jan 2026, as applicable) to have the previous assignment scores considered for the July 2026 semester certification.

Requests for payment/cancellation beyond this date will not be accommodated.

NONE OF THE DATA CHANGES WHICH INCLUDES, NAME, DOB, PHOTO, SIGNATURE  WILL NOT BE DONE BEYOND THE LAST DATE (REFER “COLUMN J” IN THE ABOVE TABLE)

You will be able to edit the fields given below ONLY if the cart is empty.

If you have unpaid courses in the cart, you have to REMOVE THEM.

Note:

Once you remove or cancel a course, you will be able to edit these fields immediately.

But, for canceled courses, refund of fees will be initiated only after 2 weeks.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

Introduction

NPTEL is an acronym for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science. NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and Humanities streams.

NPTEL is now offering online certification courses through its portal https://swayam.gov.in/nc_details/NPTEL There are 4wk, 8wk set 1 and 2 as well as 12wk courses.

How many exams can one write this semester?

Please login to the exam registration form and you may select the availability of the exam dates in your exam city.

You can take 2 exams on each day. (Session time: 9am to 12pm; 2pm to 5pm)

Exams dates and session which will be mentioned in the hall ticket cannot be changed.

Can I enroll in courses using different email ids?

No. You should use only one email id to enroll and register for all courses.

Candidates should use the same email id throughout the course run; for enrolling to course(s) and for registering for the exam(s).

Assignments submitted using any other email id will not be taken into consideration towards final consolidated score & certification.

The responsibility of the email id being valid till the course run is over lies with the candidates.

The same email id has to be used while registering for exams also.

Else, during exam city allocation, chances are that you may be randomly allocated to different exam cities, if you are writing multiple exams using multiple email ids.

Guidelines regarding upload of photos in the exam registration form

The photo uploaded in the exam form will be displayed in your hall ticket as well as the course certificate.

It is very clearly mentioned in the exam registration form as to what type of photo is acceptable.

Exam registration will be cancelled if the candidate does not upload a photo matching the given specifications.

In such cases where the candidate’s exam is cancelled, exam fee will not be refunded.

Please be advised that candidates need to strictly adhere to the instructions given.

Guidelines regarding upload of SC/ST & PwD Certificates in the exam registration form (wherever applicable)

Candidates are expected to upload a valid SC/ST and/or PwD certificate in the exam form.

Norms for the above are very clearly mentioned in the exam registration form.

Exam registration will be cancelled if the candidate does not upload a valid certificate(s).

In such cases where the candidate’s exam is cancelled, exam fee will not be refunded.

Please be advised that candidates need to strictly adhere to the instructions given.

Exam City/Centre /date/Exam Session Change Request
No request for any changes in the Centre or Date/Time specified in the Admit Card will be entertained.
Due to operational constraints, NPTEL reserves the right to add a new city or remove an existing one, and allot a city that may not be from any of the choices selected by the candidate.

What NOT to bring during exam

Physical calculators, mobile phones and wristwatches are strictly prohibited and candidates possessing these in the examination hall (even if not using) will be disqualified. An on-screen calculator will be provided during the exam.

No snacks or water will be allowed to be taken inside the hall.

Reporting Errors

Exam scores will be published as and when they are signed off by the concerned course instructor. Once scores and e-certificates are released, candidates are notified by email and/or sms. Candidates are given 3 days to verify the scores and report errors, if any.

Go Green

NPTEL supports the "Go green" initiative.

We will be publishing only e-certificates.

Hard copies of course certificates will not be printed.

Supplementary Exams

NPTEL WILL NOT conduct supplementary exams. The college may look into creating a question paper using already published Assignments for the particular course and grade it. This can perhaps be considered for the supplementary exam. In this case, NPTEL will not be issuing certificates for these students.

NPTEL Coordinators decision is final

In all matters concerning the exams, the decision taken by NPTEL Coordinators will be final and binding on all the applicants.

IMPORTANT

  1. NPTEL routinely sends email notifications to all candidates (to their registered email id) regarding any new developments with respect to extension of deadlines, other announcements, etc. Candidates are expected to check emails on a regular basis.  We also suggest that you check your inbox and spam/junk boxes for emails. The consequences of neglecting NPTEL email notifications will have to be borne by the candidate.

  1. The deadlines given here will be strictly adhered to. Candidates are advised to keep visiting NPTEL portal for regular updates on schedule of events in case of any unexpected natural/national situations.

  1. Delays or disruptions in service due to breakdown of NPTEL computer servers (due to reasons beyond the control of NPTEL) shall be rectified as early as possible and notified on NPTEL portal. The decisions of NPTEL Coordinators in this regard shall be final and binding.

  1. Examinations will be conducted in accordance with the prevailing guidelines issued by the Government. The examination dates that have been published are final.

While scheduling examinations, only National Gazetted Holidays are considered. Examinations may be conducted on other holidays that are not classified as National Gazetted Holidays.

  1. Once the exam registration form is closed, the exam fee paid is non-refundable and cannot be returned under any circumstances.

Terms and Conditions for Exam Registration

  1. I am either above 18 years of age, or I am below 18 years and have my parent's / guardian's consent. I hereby declare that I have carefully read the instructions and all the particulars stated in this application form are true and correct to the best of my knowledge and belief. If the information provided is found false / incorrect, I shall abide by any action and / or decision taken by NPTEL.
  2. I agree to the following with respect to the exam scheduling process: NPTEL will try to run the exams as scheduled; however based on logistical, operational, or any other reasons, NPTEL can make any of the following changes at any time.
  1. NPTEL can change the date/session of the exam to other options available.
  2. NPTEL can allocate a city from among the 3 choices given or any other city as per the availability of centres and nodes.
  3. NPTEL reserves the right to merge cities with few candidates, cancel a center, and make the final decision on city and center allotments.
  4. Candidate is responsible for making travel arrangements and covering any associated costs to reach the designated center.
  5. If a candidate is unable to reach the allotted exam center, NPTEL will not provide any refunds or alternative arrangements.
  1. I agree to the following conditions relevant to the activities on exam day.
  1. I will not be allowed to write the exam if I enter the exam venue after the mentioned timing on exam day or do not bring requisite documentation/ID proof.
  2. NPTEL has the right to cancel my registration/withhold results if any malpractice is committed by me during the exam.
  3. NPTEL has the right to cancel the exam in a centre/city owing to unforeseeable circumstances on the day of the exam and can decide on an appropriate course of action thereafter.
  1. I agree to the following conditions with respect to the evaluation and publication of results.
  1. That my details/testimonial may be used on the portal and on publicity material in case I am a topper in the course.
  2. The Course Instructor’s decision on scores and evaluation is final and no further clarification will be provided.
  3. Question paper and solution will not be published for the courses.
  1. I agree - If I fail in any of the exams, NPTEL WILL NOT conduct Supplementary exams for the same.
  2. I understand and agree, I should use the same email id throughout the course run, for enrolling to a course and for registering for the exam. Assignments submitted using any other email id will not be taken into consideration towards final consolidated score & certification. The responsibility of the email id being valid until the course run is over is mine.
  3. Due to unforeseen circumstances, NPTEL may have to delay the start of the exam in either of the exam sessions and can decide on an appropriate course of action thereafter.
  4. I understand and agree - that the exam fee paid is non-refundable and cannot be returned under any circumstances.
  5. I have read and understood the Data Sharing Policy outlined in this document and hereby agree to its terms and conditions.
