Red Ribbon Week is October 23rd -October 31st!

Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s largest and longest-running drug awareness and prevention program. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985.

Here is the Red Ribbon Fact of the Day: Alcohol and other drugs put your health at risk, ruin your looks, can make you depressed and anxious, contribute to slipping grades and put stress on your family and friend relationships.

Celebrate Life. Live Drug Free! Rally in Red at Jay on Friday, October 28th. Wear any red piece of clothing to show support in living drug free and making positive choices.

Stress Less Tuesdays Group

Are you feeling stressed? Mrs. Orlowski & Ms. Boylan are running a stress management group for students to learn and practice a variety of stress management techniques. Join us on Tuesdays in the Maker Space in the back of the library, This weeks meeting was on 10/25 during 4th period! Computer Science Honor Society will be meeting TODAY after school in Room 149 to get ready for our first event - Computer Science Day at the Mall. This event is an outreach for younger students and their families at the Galleria on Nov 5. We need to get the baby robots ready!

Sophomores and Juniors in New York schools can qualify for $10,000 by taking a career quiz by November 30. The quiz on BigFuture® takes less than 10 minutes to complete and gives students a list of 30 possible careers based on their interests. It's that easy!     Link here!!

SUNY APPLICATION FEE WAIVER:  Began, October 24th and ends on Sunday, November 6th, students can apply to up to five SUNY campuses with no application fee! This includes all 64 SUNY campuses, no matter which application vehicle the student uses. Students can get details here: www.suny.edu/apply

YEARBOOK: The 2023 John Jay Patriot Yearbook is now on sale. In order to ensure that we can add as much content and make it more valuable, yearbooks will not be delivered in the Spring but will be shipped individually in August to your home. When ordering a yearbook, please make sure your home address is correct. A special offer is being made, if you order personalization by 11/25/2022, you will get up to four free icons. Moustaches for Children is back!!!!!! We will again be donating all proceeds to the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital.  A one dollar donation gets you one vote.  Please help us by donating and spreading the word.  

 IMPORTANT REMINDER FOR

COLLEGE BOUND SENIORS

Please request your teacher letter of recommendations through SCOIR only.  When you fill out your COMMON APPLICATION there will be a section that asks you to request recommendations.  Simply put your teacher's name in the required field to move forward to the next screen on your application.  DO NOT PUT YOUR TEACHER OR COUNSELOR EMAIL ADDRESS IN THIS SECTION.  

If you have already requested a letter of recommendation through the common application, you must log into your account and use the "Manage Recommenders" option to remove the current invitation.  Then, log into SCOIR to request your letter.   It is imperative that you follow these directions or your common application will not process correctly.  

Class Rings, Caps & Gowns ! We will have Jostens here on TOMORROW, October 27th and Friday October 28th so that our students can order class rings and caps and gowns.  Orders will be taken in the cafeteria lobby during all lunch periods (periods 4-7).

Amnesty International will be meeting this Thursday after school in room 189. Join them if you're interested in advocating and raising awareness for current human rights issues

John Jay Chess Club

Are you a keen chess player who would like to join a club? John Jay Chess Club will be hosting their first meeting of the school year next Tuesday, November 1st. Please come with ideas for events. The meeting will be in room 247 at 2:30pm.

Girl Up Club Members, please join us for our meeting TODAY, October 26th after school in room 220.  

“Wappingers Crew Club is hosting a Clothing Drive from 9am-1pm on Saturday October 29th and November 5th at Guardian Storage on Route 376 in Wappingers.

Donate old or used clothing, toys, household items and accessories. Please put items in tied trash bags.

BLACK STUDENT UNION: will be meeting every Thursday after school @2:30pm in room 128 ( LGI)

GSA will be meeting every Thursday after school in room 191. 

SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club: SADD Club will be meeting every other Monday. All meetings are at 2:30pm in Room 101!  Our next meeting is October 31st...come for some treats and listen to our guest speaker, Dora Celestino, who will be assisting with Escape the Vape interactive escape room activity. INTERACT: Anyone interested in joining Interact, the school's community service club should join our Google Classroom.   The class code is gezbd33 Interact club meets on Tuesdays.  

Praying Patriots:. These meetings will take place every Monday at 2:30 in Room 243.

FFA: If you are interested in animals, plants, farming, mechanics, anything agriculture related or gaining leadership skills, then join the John Jay FFA (Future Farmers of America). Meetings are held every Monday after school in room 197. Come join us!! Our Classroom code is: jjnvx6m.

JOHN JAY HOCKEY CLUB: First game of the season is this Friday Oct 28th,  JV@ 6:30, Varsity @ 8:15 against Washingtonvile

Saturday Oct 29th JV @6:00 pm, Varsity @ 7:45 pm, against Washingtonville

Varsity Bowling - Any individual interested in trying out for the Varsity Bowling team should be registered and approved on Family ID. Please contact Coach Giancotti (Amanda.giancotti@wcsdny.org) for tryout information and any other questions.

Athletes of the Week 10/17/22 - 10/23/22

Connor Howe, Soccer (Senior) Forward - scored 3 goals in a Section 1 First Round match against RCK to send the Patriots into the Quarter Finals.

Will Kingston, Football, (Senior) - Will ran 56 yards for his 1st career touchdown with a highlight film run vs Ossining

David Laubenheimer, Cross Country - David had a Bowdoin Park PR of 18:13 to finish 3rd on the team helping the team to a 3rd place finish in Varsity II at the Section 1 Coaches invitational.

Emma Mahoney, volleyball (Senior) - led the defense with 37 digs and 9 assists and the highest serve receive rating in our 4 matches this week. She played outstanding defense in our 5 set victory against league rival Mahopac.

Amanda Vidal, Cross Country - Amanda had a Big PR at Bowdoin Park of 24:55 and ran her best race of the season to finish number 3 on the team.

John Jay JV Football team moved to 7-0 on the season with a convincing 33-0 victory over a previously undefeated Ossining team.  This was a total team victory with everyone contributing to the win!”

Congratulations to the John Jay Cheer teams.  Both the JV and Varsity teams again took home First place trophies at the Yorktown Invitational on Saturday!!!

John Jay Baseball

For anybody interested in trying out for Baseball in the spring, there is a parent and player interest meeting on Thursday, November 3rd at 6:30pm at John Jay High School in the LGI (Large Group Instruction) room near the front entrance of the school.  There will also be information provided on winter workouts and the booster will share information about upcoming fundraisers.

JJ WRESTLING:

As of October 3rd, the Pre Season OPEN Mats/Weight room will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (that the school is open) from 2:45 - 4:15.   You will need transportation home or take the late bus at 3:30.  updates will be posted on Sports You, please sign onto the JJ Wrestling team page by using Code:  8AQS-PTAJ  Any questions, Contact Coach Russo at    anthony.russo@wcsdny.org
