Students have the option of the FULL DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (6 groups of classes + 3 IB Core Components) at King’s Fork High School (transportation is provided via SPS). The first two years are referred to as PreDP, the final two years are referred to as IB.
IB Courses typically require a 2 year commitment with an external test during May of the 2nd year (senior year).
Students who elect to do the FULL DP PROGRAM WILL COMPLETE:
- A 4,000 word research paper on a topic of their choice (extended essay)
- An 18 month Creativity, Activity, Service project detailing their extracurriculars and community involvement
- TOK Exhibition & Essay- you will learn and be prepared for these in-house tasks over 2 years in your Theory of Knowledge Course
What should I take if I want to explore IB as a junior and senior? This is the suggested path for our 9th & 10th grade PreIB students
- PreDP English 9/PreDP English 10
- PreDP Geometry/PreDP Algebra II/Trig
- PreDP Biology/ PreDP Chemistry
- PreDP World History/Geo/ AP Government
- Pre DP Spanish II & III/PreDP French II & III
- Health PE 9/Health PE 10
- Personal Finance & Economics
- Student Choice Elective
What should I expect if I go the IB route?
- Possible summer work (designed and graded by the IB teacher)
- In and Out of class time and effort commitment
- Internal Assessments and Projects (in class tasks that get averaged in with the final exam) AND External Assessments during May of the final year of a course (tests taken and sent away for scoring by IB)
- External Assessments cost $123 per assessment (subject to change), per class.
- The IB scoring scale ranges from a 1-7
Who should pursue the IB diploma program?
- A scholar who WANTS to- this should be a personal choice
- A scholar who enjoys being a part of a team- you will have a lot of opportunity to work in small groups to achieve goals
- A scholar who doesn’t growl at the thought of writing- no matter the IB class, there will be a good bit of writing to accompany it
- A scholar who is well rounded- one who excels academically but also has interest in extracurriculars
