Technology Tips and Tricks
I have a problem…..
Oh man, my pages are loading slowly...I keep freezing...I am cutting in and out! It must be my Chromebook. I am going to contact school and get a new one.
I have some solutions….
You don’t need to go to school. It is NOT the device.
Rather it could be one poor connection, multiple users, poor signal, outdated modem and/or router
- Close ALL browsers, webpages, apps, etc. except the google meet class you are trying to join.
- Powercycle (turn power off for tec seconds) your modem and router, sometimes just need to reboot
- Router Placement should be high up and have no obstructions between it and you
- “Jumpstart your WIFI”- Run a speedtest, go to google.com then type in google speed test, click search, then click Run Speed test. It will first tell you your download speed and then upload speed. Do it a second time if you would like and see if it increases. Sometimes WiFi just needs a jumpstart like a car battery.
- Switch your video resolution - In google meets switch your video resolution from HD to SD, this takes less bandwidth
- Check your Modem and Router - Make sure they are still up to date and compatible with high speed internet. You may need to replace them.
- Hot Spot with your Phone - as a last resort, depend on your cell phone provider and data plan by using your cell phone as a Hot Spot to provide WiFI to your computer.
- Remove all Meet-based extensions (chrome://extensions), especially any Grid View extensions, Meet Attendance. Nod is one exception that we have not seen major problems with yet.
- Remove all unnecessary extensions (chrome://extensions)
- Closing out all Chrome tabs that are unnecessary to help free up system memory.
- When joining a Meet, close out any other unnecessary programs, apps, and tabs that may be consuming CPU resources.
- Limit how many concurrent tiles are being used in Meet.
