Updates and Reminders for the week ending 3.15.24

This Week We…

Math: This week students practiced telling time to the 5 minute increments!

ELA: We continued our new text, “I Have a Dream”, and focused on the speech given by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.” in 1963 during the March on Washington. Students were able to answer the question “What was Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream for the world?” As well as state their own dreams for the future.

Phonics:  We continued unit 10 in Fundations, studying the /ai/ and /ay/ vowel teams.

Science/ Social Studies: We continued learning about sound, and how our bodies make sound (vocal cords) and the way we hear sound (ear).

Social Emotional Learning (SEL): Students reviewed the DIVE matrix and the expectations for our classroom.

Next Week We Will…

Math:  Students will continue with time, working on elapsed time problems.  We will also finish our module 3 assessment.

ELA: Students will wrap up discussion about the March on Washington and begin studying Ruby Bridges.

Phonics:  We will finish the ai and ay unit, making multisyllabic words.  Students will also differentiate when to use a and ai (beginning/middle of a syllable) and when they can use a_e and ay (end of a syllable).

Science/ Social Studies: Students will wrap up our unit on sound and vibrations.

Moments to Celebrate!

Reading Under the Stars was a huge success!  Thank you to all students who were able to come out and read with us!  Also, it was incredible to see students so excited to pick out books at the book fair this week.  Keep up the good reading!

We Need Your Help

As a reminder, please make sure to label your child’s outerwear in case it gets put into lost and found.

Just wanted to remind 2nd grade families that our school policy is not to bring in sweet treats for birthdays!  

Tardies will be given out at 7:57.  Please make sure your child is at school to be on time for class!
