TABLE OF CONTENTS

Dear Ruth Asawa School of the Arts Community,

As we head into Fall Break, I want to wish each of you a restful, joyful, and restorative week. This season invites us to pause, reflect, and give thanks—for our students’ creativity and resilience, for our families’ steady partnership, and for the dedication of our staff who make our school such a vibrant place to learn and grow.

As we celebrate, I also encourage us to hold space for the deeper meaning of this time of year. Fall is not only a season of gratitude, but also a moment to remember and honor the Indigenous peoples whose histories, cultures, and stewardship of the land continue to shape our community today. Let this break be an opportunity to learn, reflect, and support one another with empathy and intention.

I hope the week ahead brings you connection, rest, and plenty of joy. We look forward to welcoming everyone back after the break, refreshed and ready for the exciting weeks to come.

See you in December!

Warmly,

Principal Kim

School Site Council (SSC) Recap - October

Hello from the SSC!  Here's our October monthly meeting recap. Agendas and notes are always available in our running document here.

Highlights from the September 19 meeting:

  • Ms Kim gave a budget update.
  • Current allocation includes 2.6 FTEs over projected funding.
  • $78K from SFUSD for supplies and $20K Prop G rollover (arts funding, expires this month).
  • Enrollment loss over summer linked to limited AP options, sports opportunities, and perception issues about “basic” instruction.
  • Boosting enrollment is critical, as it directly drives the budget.
  • Recruitment and Outreach
  • Possible mid-year enrollment for 9th–10th graders, particularly transfers.
  • Planned outreach: shadow days, workshops, marketing materials, middle school visits, and the Fall Marketplace.
  • Targeted outreach to private and charter school transfers.
  • Long-term strategies: explore specialized tracks within arts disciplines and potentially add a culinary arts program.
  • District support would be needed for a middle school arts pathway to RASOTA
  • We reviewed our School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) goals for this year (which were set at the end of last year by last year’s SSC).  These are our priorities for a discretionary budget.
  • #1 Increase community’s sense of belonging by 5% as measured by the Panorama Sense of Belonging (SEL) survey. Specifically for students increase from 67 to 72% and for staff from 53 to 58%.
  • #2 Increase students’ math achievement, particularly increasing marginalized students’ (AA/Black, LatinX, IEP students) math achievement by 3% as measured by STAR and SBAC data, and increase ELA achievement by 2% as measured by STAR and SBAC data.
  • #3 Increase College and Career readiness by 5%, from 73% to 78% as measured by CA Dashboard data report.
  • Reviewed Data

Our next meeting is 4pm Thursday Nov 20.  All meetings are open to the entire school community.  If you have any questions about the SSC feel free to reach out!
