Several TV shows / movies discuss the birth of Hip Hop and Collaborative Digital Music Creation. Some of the recommended shows include Netflix’s Get Down, PBS’ the _________ of Sound  & ____________ for students wanting to learn more about where the story all began.

Students interested in studying Digital Recording DURING high school should consider the Warren Tech’s Pro Tools-Based Audio Production Program and attend an Open House event. Also, just down the street, Arapahoe Community College offers a Sound Engineering Certificate. See Ms H’s webpage for Open Studio time at other locations.

January PROJECT

20190108 - 2019016 - Assignment Description: Remix our school fight song so it can be played as part of the basketball team warmup. Music may be used from youtube. The tempo should be appropriate for ball dribbling and layups. It should be inspiring or energetic in nature and should include signature Columbine. Completing this project should help you understand the tools of clipping, editing, volume and dynamic controls, as well as selecting and engineering similar tempos that gel well together. The ideal test is if you can dance to the beat or if the players can dribble on beat when the song changes. Most students look up a “type beat instrumental” by an artist they think it should sound like. Must include TEN SAMPLES put together in a 2-3 minute total song WITH Mr Christy’s Vocal sample echoing one of our signature school beliefs.

After you have included the voice of the school and the backbeat rhythm throughout the song, consider other elements that would be important to include representing or expanding on the lyrics below or reinterpreting using your own samples from other songs.

Must include Requirements:

  1. Must be school appropriate, all profanity deleted or dubbed over
  2. Youtube Samples (minimum of 6 parts)
  3. Main beat (type-beat to run almost the entire duration)
  4. We Are Columbine sample (and or other clips you have captured from student assemblies and other school-promoted events)

Form Groups of 5 or less, create beat, write stories, decide on overall chorus. Determine Roles: Emcee, Producer, Sound Engineer, Ad Libs, Editor, etc. Some music asks for a story. Or listening to it inspires you to write something. What story would you put with on Yondo’s lofi hip-hop J Cole x Kendrick Lamar Type Beat - "Dont Kill My Vibe" beat? Question to ask yourself, What lyrics would go with this? What would be a different beat YOU would like to tell YOUR story to?
