2nd Grade Learning Board

April 6-10, 2020

  • The Learning Board is designed to give families learning opportunities at home.
  • Students also have the option to use Moby Max. https://www.mobymax.com/signin
  • Type in the name of your elementary building. Choose your building from the list.
  • Enter the student’s username and password. For assistance, contact your child’s teacher.
  • Students also are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes a day. (Read to someone, Read with someone, Listen to Reading)
  • Printed copies of Week 3 and 4 Learning Boards are available for pick up from April 4-6 from 7AM-7PM.

Objective: Students will record daily temperatures to visualize daily differences & review dates and types of weather.

Objective: Students will use information from the story to demonstrate understanding of characters.

Look through your bookshelf at home.  Can you find a book about friendship?  Read it to a family member or friend and talk about the main characters.  Which character would you like to have as a friend?  Why?

Objective: Students will focus on a topic and strengthen writing by revising and editing. 

Writing:

Activity #1: A Good Friend

1.) Write a list of qualities that make a good friend.

2.) Write a letter to a friend.  Have a parent or older sibling help you to edit it.

 3.) Take a picture of it and send it to your friend.

Activity #2: Practice writing your parents’ phone numbers and address.

Kindness Quilt

Objective: Students will recall kind things they have recently done and brainstorm more kind things to do in the future.  Students will color the quilt square.

Think of kind things you have done recently and record them in the appropriate box.  Then, brainstorm new ways to be kind.  Then, color the quilt squares.

Have a conversation with a family member using all 4 vocal timbres: singing, speaking, whisper and shouting voice.

Spelling/High Frequency Word Practice Ideas:
sidewalk chalk, put a layer of  sand/flour/rice in a cake pan and write with your finger, use your finger to write on your parents back and make them guess the word, spell them as you do jumping jacks or other physical activities, worksheets, or come up with your own way to practice!

Make or use the flashcards you made to practice your math facts.

Objective: Students will fluently add and subtract within 100 using various strategies.

The student will complete 2 or more of the following worksheets.

Map Drawing

Objective: Students will use what they have learned about map keys and symbols to write about and design a fire safety plan using key vocabulary.

Assemble and read the Fire Safety Booklet.  Draw an aerial map of your family’s fire escape plan and include your meeting place.  Practice with your family.

Art projects, Kites ...

Click Here

Draw 2 or 3 large kites.  Fill the kites with shapes like squares, triangles or rectangles.  Trace with a black sharpie or crayon. Color the shapes with bright colors.Write an acrostic poem about kindness and color the kindness quilt square.
