Welcome to the Town of Solon!
Solon is located right in the heart of Cortland County, approximately 4 miles east of the City of Cortland. The town covers 29.7 square miles of picturesque hills and valleys with State Route 41, Trout Brook and Cheningo Creek running through it. Solon is predominantly a residential and agricultural community. Over 2500 acres of State Forest lands fall within the town offering an abundance of recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.

- The Planning/ZBA meeting scheduled for Monday, March 13th has been cancelled and has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 16th at 7 pm.
Notices from the Town Clerk
- The Tax Roll and Warrant for the year 2023 has been received and Office Hours for tax collection will be Monday’s from 5-6:30 pm, the last day of each month from 5-7 pm and the first Saturday of each month from 9 - 11 am for the purpose of receiving taxes. - The Town of Solon fire contract with McGraw Fire Department will go into effect at 12:01 on 1/1/2023.
Town Clerk/Tax Collector Office Hours January - May 2023
- Open every Monday 5-7pm (5-6:30 for Tax Collection) (Closed on Jan 2, Mar 20, Mar 27)
- Open first Saturday of every month 9-11 am (Open Jan 14 in place of Jan 7, Feb 4, Mar 4, Apr 1, May 6)
- Open last day of every month 5-7 pm (Open Jan 31, Feb 28, Mar 31 ,Apr 30, May 31)
- Beginning June 2023 Additional hours for Tax Collection will end and Clerk Office hours will be every Monday 5-7 only. No Saturday hours.

- The Town of Solon is currently looking to appoint an Assessment Board of Review member. Anyone interested can contact the Town Supervisor by calling 836-6246 with any questions.

- Important information regarding the possibility of losing STAR Tax Exemptions under certain property tax delinquencies can be found here and on the NYS Department of Tax and Finance website here.
New Recycling Guidelines - Thank you for recycling!
- The County has imposed new recycling guidelines. Only recycle plastics that have a top, lid or cap. Empty and rinse all containers and throw away all tops, lids and caps. Other accepted recyclables include mixed paper, cardboard, aluminum and metal cans and glass. Please note glass must now be separated. The new flyer can be viewed here.
