Catholic Campus Ministry at UMW
How is God calling you to give generously?

April 2018

God has given each one of us a set of gifts and talents. Thank you for responding “yes” to answering the call. Whether you have been supporting us this past year or this is your first time answering the call, God has placed on your heart to serve Him by supporting the students at the University of Mary Washington in their journey of faith while in college.  This is such a critical time for the young adults on campus. Only 10% of college students keep their faith after they leave home, and the mission of the Catholic Campus Ministry at UMW focuses on forming souls in the apostolate and living a life of prayer. Your support is greatly appreciated in the lives of many souls on this campus!

Your response to serving the Lord in this way is one of  love and gratitude for the many gifts that God has given you. Whenever you give your time, talent, or treasure, you give to our Heavenly Father. Your gifts and talents may be different from your neighbors’ but together we can make a difference! Below are three areas where we need the most support right now and where you can help us build a stronger community of faith for the students of the Campus Ministry.

  1. Become a Monthly Donor

What: The ministry is doubling and tripling in size which means expenses are growing as well. We need individuals who can help support our work financially so that we are able to continue our programing. Donations allow us to  support our Fun Friday costs, take students on service trips, provide different ways to evangelize on campus, decorate the center with flowers for Easter, and more.

Commitment: Commit to giving $100, $50 or $30  per month.

  1.  Become a Retreat Sponsor

What: Retreats are an opportunity for the students to deepen their relationship with Christ in a transformative way and foster lifelong friendships in the community. During the Fall semester, we hold  a Freshmen with over 25 students  and Upperclassmen retreat with over 50 students. During the Spring semester, we go to Summit Conference in Richmond VA.

Commitment: We need sponsors that are willing to give $500 or $250 one time.

FAQ’s:

  1. Cook for Supper Social Once a Semester

What: Supper Social is a weekly event held every Thursday at the St. John Bosco Center from 4:30pm - 6:30pm where students come for Mass and a free home-cooked meal. During the meal we either have a speaker or a Q&A session where students are encouraged to sit with a new set of friends for the week. We have priests or religious come to give a topic on a variety of subjects ranging from morality, theology, pro-life issues, leadership, service, relationships, and more. As we continue to grow, we need people to use their talent to cook for the students!

Commitment: Prepping and cooking a meal for 60 students once a semester or monthly
