Parents, today’s Bible story covered the prophets proclamations that the Messiah would be born. People waited expectantly for hundreds of years to see the promised Savior.

 

Live It Out:

Celebrate waiting for Christmas with your family. Find an Advent devotional book to use each day or week of the Advent season. Involve your child in planning special activities for the family.

Unit 1, Session 2: Angels Spoke to Mary and Joseph

Luke 1:26-38; Matthew 1:18-24

 

Life Point: God chose a family for Jesus.

The Bible Meets Life:

Parents, today your child heard that angels announced Jesus’ birth to Mary and Joseph. God’s plan for Jesus was that He would grow up in a family. God’s plan for families started at creation.

 

Live It Out:

Help your child memorize the weekly verse, Matthew 1:21. This verse contains the angel’s words to Joseph. God committed Jesus to the family of Joseph before He was born. Help your child understand that God chose a family for Jesus because that is His plan for all children.

Life Point: People were excited that Jesus would be born.

Parents, in today’s Bible story, kids learned that Mary, after the angel told her about Jesus, visited Elizabeth. Knowing who Mary’s baby would be filled Elizabeth with excitement and joy.

 

Live It Out:

Does your family celebrate Jesus during Christmas? Discuss with your child ways to make Jesus the focus of all you do during the season. Think of ways to show the love of Jesus to those less fortunate.

Unit 1, Session 4: Jesus Was Born

Life Point: Jesus was a man and He was God.

The Bible Meets Life:

Parents, today your child heard the story of Jesus’ birth. Jesus, God’s promised Messiah, had been born. Immanuel, God with us, had come to earth.

 

Live It Out:

Jesus was born! This is the day we celebrate that God sent Jesus to earth. Because Jesus was born, died, and rose again, we can choose to believe in Jesus and have eternal life with God. Celebrate with your family by singing favorite Christmas carols that are about the birth of the Savior.

Unit 1, Session 5: Wise Men Visited Jesus

Life Point: People should worship Jesus.

Parents, today your child learned about wise men from the east who traveled far to find the special King. When they found Jesus, they worshiped Him. How does your family worship the King?

 

Live It Out:

Does your family worship Jesus at home. The wise men worshiped Jesus by bowing down to Him and presenting Him gifts. Discuss with your child what gifts she could give to Jesus.

Unit 2, Session 1: Josiah and the Lost Scroll

Life Point: The Bible will last forever.

The Bible Meets Life:

Parents, today’s Bible story was about Josiah and the lost scroll that was found while the workers repaired the temple. Isn’t it amazing that God’s word has lasted for thousands of years and spread to the whole world?

 

Live It Out:

Provide several different translations of the Bible and use them to read the weekly verse, Psalm 119:89. Help your child memorize his favorite translation of the verse.

Parents, today your child heard the story of Daniel and his choice to obey God’s laws. Learning from the holy Scriptures kept Daniel on the right path. What truth does your family find in the Bible?

 

Live It Out:

Talk with your child about some difficult choices she has to make each day. Help her look in the Bible for guidance. Remind her that the Bible provides God’s truth and meaning to our lives.

Parents, today your child studied the Bible story about Daniel in the lions’ den. Even though Daniel faced punishment, he obeyed God and continued to pray to God.  

 

Live It Out:

How can you help your child be an example to others? Discuss ways he can let others see his integrity and obedience to God in his everyday life. This can provide an opportunity to talk to others about how the Bible guides a Christian’s life.

Life Point: The Bible is God's message to people.

Parents, today your child learned about Jonah. God sent Jonah on a mission to give His message to the Assyrian people. Even though Jonah initially disobeyed, he finally obeyed, and the people received God’s message.

 

Live It Out:

Help your child memorize 2 Timothy 3:16, the unit verse for this month. This verse gives an overview of how the Bible impacts our lives. Ask your child to name some things she has learned from the Bible.

 Sunday: February 4th

Unit 3, Session 1: John the Baptist Told About Jesus

Life Point:
The Holy Spirit was present at Jesus' baptism and is present at people's baptisms today.

John 14:26

The Bible Meets Life:
Parents, today your child heard the story of John the Baptist and Jesus’ baptism. The Holy Spirit was present at Jesus’ baptism, and He is present today when people choose God’s gift of salvation.

Live It Out:
Depending on the age of your child, the Holy Spirit may be new information for your child. Tell your child that when he became, or becomes, a Christian, the Holy Spirit will always be present in his life.

Parents, today our Bible story was about two of Jesus’ healing miracles. Jesus loved and cared for people and demonstrated that love through healing. How does your family experience Jesus’ love and care?

 

Live It Out:

Talk about today’s Bible story with your child. Tell her that Jesus still cares for and helps people. Make a list of ways Jesus cares for your family. Work together to compose a prayer of thanks for His love and care.

The Bible Meets Life:

Parents, today your child heard a story about one of Jesus’ miracles. Jesus walked on water during a storm to meet His disciples on the Sea of Galilee. Peter wanted to follow Jesus, even on the water.

Talk with your child about some of his favorite Bible stories about Jesus. Discuss what Jesus was teaching through these stories about following Him and how people should live. Remind your child that, as Christians, we should strive to be like Jesus.

Unit 3, Session 4: Jesus Taught About Forgiveness

Life Point: People can ask Jesus and others to forgive them when they do wrong things.

The Bible Meets Life:

Parents, today your child heard Jesus’ words on forgiveness. Jesus taught His disciples through a parable how and why people should show forgiveness to others. How do you teach your family about forgiveness?

 

Live It Out:

Remind your child that we should forgive others because God forgives us. Help your child memorize the weekly verse, Ephesians 4:32. Challenge her to recite the verse if she is in a situation that requires her to forgive someone.
