Information GradeScout Collects and Third Parties it's Handled By
Given that your personal information can be sensitive, especially in the context of education-related systems, we try to minimize the amount of personal data we handle and the duration for which it is handled. If you believe your privacy when using GradeScout is not sufficient, you are welcome to avoid using our services. However, we are always open to feedback at the email address mentioned in the About section if you have any concerns.
- GradeScout does not store your credentials or other personal information on its servers. We store your account information on your own device. However, your credentials are sent to our servers to be relayed to your school district's Genesis server (which is little different from you using the Genesis-provided website). They are never stored in any permanent form on our servers and only exist momentarily there (they are deleted from memory at the instant that they are no longer needed). They are not accessible to us in any way and many measures are taken to prevent security vulnerabilities. Additionally, we do collect a non-reversible hash (not decodable by us or anyone else) of a combination of your username and student ID, paired with your school district’s name. This allows us to accurately measure our user count in different locations without compromising your privacy. It does not give us any information about you as an individual, and we cannot trace these hashes to your account.
- Your school district or other educational institution, which maintains the account you use to log into your Genesis instance (and, by extension, GradeScout), does receive the information we relay to it (which is limited to your own account credentials and session information). Your educational institution may maintain its own privacy policy regarding information used in its Genesis instance.
- Genesis Educational Services may also have access to the aforementioned information we send to your educational institution's Genesis instance. Genesis Educational Services maintains its privacy policy at https://www.genesisedu.com/privacy-policy-2/.
- Google gathers some analytics data regarding your usage of GradeScout that we have access to via Google Analytics. For example, Google Analytics may store the school district that you are logging in from. However, this information is not tied to you. Google utilizes cookies to store this information and track your activity. This information is not related to your Genesis account or any of your academic information. It cannot be used by us to determine individual users' identities. However, Google may be able to do so. You can read more about how Google uses data when you use GradeScout at https://www.google.com/analytics/policies/. If you would like to opt out of Google Analytics data collection on our site or any other site, see https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/181881.
- Cloudflare provides cybersecurity and other services for GradeScout. All traffic to GradeScout is proxied, or routed, through Cloudflare. Cloudflare does gather certain analytics information for us, but does not store information related to your Genesis account or academic information. You may read Cloudflare's privacy policy at https://www.cloudflare.com/privacypolicy/.
Discord Server
If you join our Discord server, your data will be additionally subject to Discord's privacy policy. Furthermore, if you use a join code to be verified, server staff will have access to the following information from GradeScout:
- The join code you used.
- The exact time you clicked the "Join Code" button in GradeScout.
- A hash (non-decodable string) of your Genesis username and student ID.
- The hash is stored and associated with your Discord ID. This is used in order to prevent multiple Discord users (potentially non-GradeScout users) from using other peoples' join codes.
- This hash alone cannot be used in any way to derive your Genesis account information.
You're in Control of Your Data
As mentioned previously, we do not store your account information anywhere other than on your own device. If you so choose, you can delete this cached information by logging out and/or clearing cookies and site data for GradeScout in your browser.
