My Digital Footprint
(All Grade 6 last names K0-San)
Curricular Connection: Technology Operations and Concepts, All Core Content Areas
Description: Technology is a huge part of our everyday life. It’s also a major component of how we communicate with people. In this elective, we explore the meaning of digital citizenship and examine its impact on our daily lives, our education and the ways it could impact our future. You will engage in research, discussion, debates, reflection and eventually create a digital media presentation showing what you’ve learned about your digital footprint and how to ensure you are using technology to the greatest benefit for yourself and others.
Curricular Connection: Drama
Description: Act up! Do something. This elective is an exploration of a Drama for Justice project. Drama can be a powerful tool for social change or social awareness. It allows us to call attention to injustice and to envision a scene in which injustice is overcome. Using dialogue, we can change the very language associated with injustice. With drama, we can re-imagine moments of historical courage. The students will learn various aspects of drama and create their own dramatic pieces to educate others about a social issue that is important to them.
Curricular Connection: All subject areas
Description: The search-engine giant Google allows its engineers to spend 20% of their time to work on any pet project that they want. The idea is very simple. Allow people to work on something that interests them, and productivity will go up. The same genius hour principles apply in the classroom as they do in the corporate environment. During this elective, you will have a set amount of time to work on your passion projects. You are then challenged to explore something specific to do a project over what you want to learn about. You will spend several weeks researching the topic before you start creating a product that will be shared with the class/school. Throughout the process I will help you with research, design, materials, and building, when necessary, to ensure that you are on task. But for the most part, this is your time to be creative and explore!
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course, students will:

We will learn about cinematic devices directors use to make us smile, to make us cry, and to make us jump out of our seats whenever a creepy object or person appears out of nowhere. We will then use what we have learned about these techniques to create short, original film scenes of our own.
