All The Things I Have Learnt From My Dogs

1

Hi. I’m going to tell you about some things I’ve learnt from my dogs. You’re probably thinking; what have dogs got to teach you? Dogs spend most of their time barking over food and chewing on shoes. For me, I think dogs have got a lot to teach.

I have had a lot of dogs over the years. This is because we have a small farm and we take old retired sheepdogs and they get to work on our farm.

The oldest sheepdog we had was called Spud. I can’t remember much about him, but one thing I learnt from Spud was to take an opportunity when you see it.

The first day Spud came to our house, there was a birthday party on. Spud had never been inside a house or even seen children before, but that didn’t stop him from walking inside and eating all the red sausages! :0

Another heading dog we had was Pippi. Pippi taught me to have good focus. The reason for that is because Pippi would almost get hypnotised when she was working with the sheep. One day my dad wanted to see how long she would stare at a sheep for.

After 5 whole minutes the sheep got bored and walked away. But Pippi would have gone on forever because she had good focus.

The next dog was called Jazz. Jazz was possibly my favourite sheep dog. She loved all of us and would put her paw on our shoulders. Jazz taught me to be good humoured and happy to others. Whenever  Jazz saw me jumping on the tramp she would run around until I got off so she could lick my face.

Now we have Eve to help with the sheep. Eve is a bit of an odd dog. She has taught me to be careful of strangers. She taught me this by hiding under the house and peering around corners when a new person arrives at our place.  I’m not sure I want to be as careful as her though!

We also have pet dogs. Boots is an old dog too because Mum and Dad got him before I was born. Boots has showed me it is good to suck it up and deal with it. He was once hit  in the ribs by a bullet from a .22  but we didn’t even know till years later when Dad saw it on an xray for something else. Boots never complains.

Now we come to my favourite dog, Fizzy. Fizzy is my puppy and I have trained him since he was little.

Fizzy is very enthusiastic. He is enthusiastic about eating, playing on the tramp, going to work with Dad, fetching sticks, chasing birds, going for runs, licking faces and eating socks. Socks go right through him!

He is also squishy and I love him so much.

I am so glad we have such wonderful dogs. They all have wonderful unique opinions  . They have all taught me good lessons about life. I hope everybody else can have a dog or another pet to teach them too.
