Expected Action Items for Today

What are you doing today?

  • Watch the videos and complete the ACTIVITY action items.
  • Look through the examples for new ideas. Will you use a whiteboard? A bulletin board? Chart paper? Plastic sleeves? Where will you find these materials?
  • Print the Planning Guide and complete sections PLAN and DO. Find a spot in your room for your PDSA if you don’t already have one and post your PLAN and DO sections.
  • Write in your lesson plan when and how you will discuss the PLAN and DO sections with students.  Also note when you will look at your results and work with students to complete STUDY, a PLUS/DELTA and ACT.

🎯 How will you know you’re successful today and beyond?

  • You learned something new about the PDSA and how it applies to the work you do in your classroom.
  •  You know where you are on the district’s Continuous Improvement rubric for Systematic Improvement  and have a plan to move to the next level.
  • You have your PDSA posted in your classroom and have a plan for sharing it with students included in your daily/weekly procedures.
  • You see the value and purpose in doing this and have gone out and talked to at least one colleague about what you learned.
  • Your students see the value in what they are learning and apply it to their own learning. When students are at this point, add student data folders to your classroom.

🔎 How will your administrator be able to see you were successful?

  • Your PDSA will be posted in your room in a kid-friendly location.
  • Students are able to tell a visitor to the classroom what they are learning and how it will be assessed.
  • Students are able to explain to you, parents and to each other why / how they learn best.
  •  Students are able to set class goals and keep track of progress towards academic achievement.

How can I learn more?

Look for the book: Continuous Classroom Improvement:  A teacher's guide to a better approach by Jim Shipley and Marilyn Wescott (2014). Many campus libraries have a copy.

Another great book:  There is Another Way! Launch a Baldrige-based quality classroom by Margaret Byrnes and Jeanne Baxter (2005).
