ST. STEPHEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER & UPDATE
Healthy Hearts, Caring Minds

In this issue
“We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, spread love. Be poor among the poor. We need to include the excluded and preach peace.”
We are asking for parent cooperation to ensure that there are no cars parking in the no parking zone in front of the school, before (from 8:00-9:00am) or after (from 2:30-3:30pm) school. The City of Ottawa recently changed the no parking signs along Stittsville Main Street to properly reflect the current bell times. The Crossing Guard at the intersection of Stittsville Main Street and Bandelier Way is having a very difficult time because parked cars are blocking her view and, in some cases, physically blocking the actual crosswalk. The parking of cars on Stittsville Main Street, before and after school, is creating a potentially dangerous situation for the Crossing Guard and pedestrians. We know we can count on your help to ensure this practice stops immediately.
Many of our St. Stephen parents and students are in a new video that highlights the importance of parent engagement. Thank you to everyone who volunteered! This video is proudly brought to you by your Ottawa Catholic School Parents’ Association and the Ottawa Catholic School Board Parent Involvement Committee. If you have any questions, please contact Mark Savenkoff, who is actively involved with our School Council and CSPA.
Tuesday, November 29th is our first Snow (Ice) Day of the year. A reminder that while the buses are cancelled on Snow Days, the school does remain open. For information on potential snow days, please check the school site or the email account you have provided to the school. Any students that are dropped off at the start of the day are to be picked up by a parent/caregiver at the office at 3pm. Have a great day and please drive safely.
Christmas Concert Food Orders
We are very excited to hold our outdoor Christmas concert on Thursday, December 15th. A note will be sent home tomorrow, asking approximately how much food your family will be ordering at the event. Please fill out the form, but there is no need to include any money at this time. The returned forms will be used for planning and ordering purposes.
We began our weekly Advent Liturgies on Monday, November 28th. Three liturgies were held throughout the morning, for up to eight classes at a time, in our front foyer area. This week, along with our prayers and songs, the theme of Hope was discussed and the students were encouraged to participate in our Pajama Drive.
We have so much to be thankful for at St. Stephen School. Mrs. Stevenson wants to thank all staff, students and families for making our book fair a success by purchasing books and supporting our Classroom Wish Lists. Our wonderful volunteers did an incredible job setting up, writing wish lists for students, selling, restocking and even packing up. The Scholastic Book Fair is one way we are able to raise money for our library. This money helps pay for new books which you will soon see coming home. Enjoy reading them!
