     Build a Scale Model Site

Success Criteria:

I can build a physical or virtual 3D model to scale.

I can inform others about my site using the UNESCO’s criteria.

I can identify these features in my model.

Directions here

Your Task:

Identify a world Heritage site that you think should be preserved, research, write an information report  and create a 3D model of it.

The World heritage site I am presenting on is_____________________________

TASK

Completed

Gather research on your world heritage site using the gathering grid

View all angles of your site using VR glasses and take careful notes of what you observed

Identify the criteria for why UNESCO has listed your site as World Heritage

Take notes that explain why it meets those criteria

Take notes of the dimensions of your site and the important shapes within your site

Looking at your World Heritage Site through the lens of writing:

Write an information report

TASK

Completed

Decide on 3 micro groups about your Heritage site.

Include what criteria it fits under.

Use the Information Report scaffold to plan your Information report

Looking at your World Heritage Site through the lens of Math:

What do you need to know?

Think through the measurement pre-assessment you did then take a look at the tasks below. What do you already know how to do and what do you need to know in order to accomplish the task?

Choose a Math goal that will help you accomplish the task and circle it below

Math Goal

  • Convert between units of measurements
  • Calculate perimeter of a shape
  • Measure angles and lines
  • Use ratio to draw to scale
  • Name geometric shapes
  • Label and measure angles
  • Identify lines of symmetry

TASK

Completed

Figure out the measurements of your site then convert the measurements to a smaller scale.  For example convert meters to cm.

Draw a diagram, to scale, on graph paper of your World Heritage Site

Label the diagram with the measurements of each side

Calculate the perimeter of your shape and record it on your graph paper

Identify at least 2 angles that are important to your site and label the type of angle they are and their measurements.

Identify lines of symmetry in your site.

Identify important shapes in your site and label them on your graph paper.

Use various materials of your choice to build a physical 3-dimensional model of your site or to build a virtual 3D model of your site.

Create a video tour of your site which included your 3 micro groups (if there is time)
