Competition Instructions
Individual Fall Competition | One Entry Per Chapter Level |
Objective: Write a blog-type article discussing your review of a current Tome Book Award book for your grade level.
Learning Targets:
- Analyze the plot and characters in the book being reviewed.
- Write in blog-style an article discussing the book review.
- Use varied expressions and descriptive language.
- Evaluate the themes and messages conveyed in the book.
Final Product Guidelines:
- Must be a Google Doc or PDF written document.
- Must clearly be the student’s own original work - NO AI ALLOWED.
- Should be excellently written in proper language (no texting-style abbreviations) with excellent grammar, spelling, & mechanics.
- Should be 300-500 words.
- Should be based on a Tome Book Award book for the current school year from the student’s grade level list that the student has read entirely.
- Blog article should include:
- A descriptive title
- An image of the book cover (with citation)
- The title of the book
- The author of the book
- A brief description of the book
- No spoilers of the ending or important plot twists
- The student’s personal review of the book
- The student’s recommended audience for the book - who they think would enjoy it most
- Two recommendations of other books people might enjoy if they liked this book
- Information about other books in the series if relevant, other books by the same author, a movie about the book, etc that might interest the reader.

Scoring Rubric
Student should self-assess their work using the following scoring rubric before submission.
Failure to meet all rubric requirements will result in loss of points.
