FIELD TEAM 6 POSTCARDING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

GETTING STARTED

  1. How do I get started postcarding with Field Team 6?
  1. This page will walk you through the steps to get started.
  2. Here is a quick rundown:
  1. I did not receive a confirmation email.
  1. Check your spam folder.  If you do not find our confirmation email there within 10-15 minutes, please email Postcards@FieldTeam6.org.
  1. Do postcards take special stamps?
  1. Yes, postcard stamps are cheaper than regular first class stamps.  Buy them here. You can also, of course, pick some up at your local post office.
  1. Where can I buy the Field Team 6 postcards designed by Shepard Fairey?
  1. You can buy the Shepard Fairey postcards here.
  1. Do the Shepard Fairey postcards already have the QR code printed on them?
  1. Yes. No need to purchase or print labels for the Shepard Fairey postcards.
  1. If I am using my own postcards, what kind of labels do I need to buy so that I can print and stick the QR codes onto the cards?
  1. We have templates that work with Avery 94103, 5160, 8160 or compatible. Try doing a test print on paper first before you print on the labels.
  2. Here are our Voterizer QR Code templates for Avery 94103, 5160, and 8160.
  3. If you do not have a printer, we recommend you buy the Shepard Fairey postcards as the QR codes are printed on them. But Avery can also print and ship the labels to you. You would need to upload and design 94103 labels using our Voterizer QR Code.  If you need any help with this, please ask us in our Slack. We would be happy to help!

I’M READY TO WRITE.  NOW WHAT?

  1. Where and when do I order my addresses?
  1. Order your addresses here after you’ve gathered all of your materials (postcards, stamps), set up your account, and confirmed your email.
  1. My labels are not printing right.
  1. Try adjusting your print setting to “actual size” rather than “scale to fit.” Try doing a test print on paper first before you print on the labels.
  1. What if I want more addresses than the site is willing to give me?
  1. Volunteers are limited to 200 addresses per campaign. If you are a postcard group leader with plans to distribute addresses to other writers, please complete this form to request an increase in your postcard limit.
  1. Where do I place The QR Code, The Message, and The Address on my postcard?
  1. Place the QR code label in the top left corner of the written message side, as shown in the picture below.
  2.  If you are using cards that have the artwork and address on the same side, please be sure to put the QR code label on the side with the written message.

  1. Should I print labels for the addresses or hand write them?
  1. We prefer that you hand write the addresses because a handwritten card, as opposed to one that looks like it was mass mailed, is much more likely to be read.
  1. Should I include my return address?
  1. No. Please do not include your return address, email address, last name, or social media information.
  1. Can I change the script?
  1. We have thought these scripts through carefully with the target voters in mind and vetted them with partner groups on the ground in the various districts in which we work so we ask that you do not change the script. We are open to suggestions, though, so if you have ideas for shortening and/or improving our messaging, please email Postcards@FieldTeam6.org.
  1. Should I highlight or color in the QR code to make it stand out?
  1. You should not add any color to the QR code because it might make it more difficult for the recipient’s phone camera to read it.
  1. What if the recipient of the card doesn’t know how to use QR codes?
  1. We’ve added “or go to Voterizer.org” to our scripts to address this issue. You can go back to GET ADDRESSES and download the most up-to-date instruction packet/script for your current addresses.
  1. What if I get a voter without an address?
  1. Please skip that voter, but do let us know in SLACK or email which campaign had that issue.
  1. What do I do after I’ve completed and mailed my postcards?
  1. Thank you for all that you do! After you’ve mailed the postcards, please return here and confirm that you’ve completed the addresses. You can order more addresses from the same campaign if it’s still active. There will also be another link on that page for you to select a different campaign.
