Beta Club

The club's mission is to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, service, and leadership among high school students.

Membership Requirements
High school students with a 3.5 GPA and teacher recommendations may apply for membership in Beta Club. Members are responsible for annual dues, mandatory service project(s), and attendance at monthly meetings.
Membership applications are due in August, and acceptance letters are sent out in September.

Chess Club

The purpose of this club is to learn how to play chess, practice, and engage in competition with other club members. The club has regularly scheduled meetings and informal chess games during other times.

The Cinema Society (Film Club)

The Cinema Society meets to watch, study, and discuss films from different points of view. Members can get into video production and learn the technical aspects of filmmaking through film study. The Cinema Society allows students on campus to work with others on campus who are interested in filmmaking.

Membership Requirements
High school students interested in discussing films, being a part of student-led productions, and having a general interest in the film industry are welcome to join.

Comic Book Club

Comic Book Club brings together middle and high school students who love reading, drawing, writing, and learning about comics or graphic novels. We discuss comic book history, characters, and how to create comics. Whether you have been collecting, just started, or want to talk about these fantastic characters that you know from other media, here's the place to be.

Dungeons & Dragons (D&D)

The purpose is to give students a place to explore themselves and their identities through D&D, a fantasy tabletop role-playing game.   Players collaborate, engage in teamwork, and use problem-solving in a low-risk, high-interest environment.  

Membership Requirements
Students in grades 9 through 12 willing to learn something new and an imagination are welcome to join.  A tablet or computer is helpful but optional.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

FCA challenges coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high, and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world and encourage people to make a difference for Jesus Christ.

At ULS, FCA is open to high school students involved in athletics, dance, or cheer, in conjunction with the school or in a recreational setting.

French Club is designed to promote and foster the ULS community of students studying the French language and cultures.

Membership Requirements
The French Club is open to students interested in learning other languages and cultures. Fluency in French is not necessary to become a member or attend meetings.

French National Honor Society

The French National Honor Society aims to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, to reward academic achievements, to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of Francophone cultures, and to promote international friendship.

Membership Requirements
Candidates must be enrolled in the fourth semester of French or higher and have maintained an A- (A minus) average or higher in French throughout their secondary school study of French. Candidates must have maintained a B- (B minus) average or higher in all other secondary school subjects before the semester of selection. French may not be used to calculate this average.

National Honor Society (NHS)

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Four primary purposes have guided chapters of NHS from the beginning: "To create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership and to develop character in the students of secondary schools" (from the NHS constitution).

Membership Requirements
NHS is by invitation only. Membership application for UHS NHS is offered to students with a 3.7500 weighted GPA as of January, beginning their sophomore year. The application includes questions regarding community service, school service, school leadership, and awards and accolades. In addition, applicants write a plan of action for our community for a service-oriented project. Invitations to apply are emailed in February and due in March/April.

Premiere Company Show Choir

The Premiere Company Show Choir combines choral singing with choreographed dance moves, often within the context of a specific idea or story. Styles of music range from Broadway, Pop, and even Classic Rock!

All high school students who enjoy singing are invited to audition for the Premiere Company Show Choir.  Auditions take place in September.

PRISM

We set our purpose, charge, and mission of the Gay-Straight Student Alliance to serve as a support group for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other queer identities at U-High and their straight allies. PRISM exercises the task of being a cultural bridge between the stated individuals and their peers by uplifting and encouraging a healthy and positive lifestyle for its members, raising awareness of LGBTQ        + civil rights issues, and striving to help students in this group reach higher levels of academic excellence.

PRISM is open to all U-High students identifying as LGBTQ+ and their allies.

Spanish National Honor Society

The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica is a national and international academic honor society in the study of high school Spanish and Portuguese and is sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, Inc. (AATSP)

Membership Requirements
Candidates are high school students with an honor average in  Spanish classes for at least three semesters. Character, leadership, seriousness of purpose, cooperation, honesty, service, and commitment to others are also considered in selecting members. The student must be enrolled in Spanish at the time of initiation.

Student Council

Student Council promotes student participation, encourages stronger student-faculty relationships, strives for a better school and community connection, serves as the representative governing council of the student body, promotes interest in scholastic activities, and provides experience in leadership and citizenship.

Membership Requirements
Voting members of the Council are the elected officers of the Student Council (president, vice-president, secretary) and delegates from each grade. This delegation includes the class officers elected by the student body and allotted class representatives who meet membership requirements established by the Student Council and elected or appointed under the procedures prescribed by the constitution and bylaws.

Triple M Music Honor Society

Triple M opens up opportunities for students who have already shown themselves academically capable and musically gifted. They’ll develop confidence, creativity, critical thinking, compassion, and other leadership skills through performance and community service to serve them well in school and beyond.

Students in grades 9 through 12 who are enrolled in a school-sponsored music ensemble or class, are of excellent character and maintain at least a  C average overall and a B average in music are eligible to join.
