Infrastructure Requirements

Overview

Flyingshapes provides an on-premises installation that consists of both client and server-side components. The client software runs on VR-enabled workstations, while the optional server-side setup includes the following components:

• Web-Collaboration and License Server – Manages user authentication, licensing, and resource access.
• VR Collaboration Server – Handles real-time collaboration via two sub-components:

• Kerrigan: Collaboration management service
• Kafka: Message queue service

• AI Server – Web service for AI image generation

This document outlines the hardware, software, and network requirements necessary to set up and operate Flyingshapes entirely within your premises.

Client Requirements

1. VR Headset Compatibility

Flyingshapes supports most PC-VR setup with controllers, including:

• Apple Vision Pro (via streaming from PC)
• Meta Quest 2/3/Pro (via streaming from PC)
• Windows Mixed Reality Headsets
• Varjo XR/VR series

3. Software Requirements

• Windows 10/11 (64-bit) Operating System
• Up-to-date graphics drivers
• OpenXR runtime for the used VR headset (e.g., SteamVR, Oculus PC App, WMR, Varjo Base)
• WebGL-capable web browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge)

4. Installation & Configuration

• Administrator rights are required for installation and updates.

Server Requirements

1. Hardware Specifications

Note: One AI Server with 4 GPUs per 10 users is recommended for optimal performance.

2. Software Requirements

License & Collaboration Server

• Operating System: Linux (preferred) or Windows
• Containerization: Docker 24.0 or higher
• Containers: A total of 9 Docker containers, including:

• We provide our own container images, which are based on:

• Amazoncorretto
• Ubuntu
• Nginx
• Node
• Postgres
• Alpine
• mailhog/mailhog

• GPU Access: Not required

AI Server (Optional)

• Operating System: Linux (preferred for higher performance) or Windows
• Docker: Not required

Network Configuration

1. DNS

• Servers must be reachable by DNS name from all client machines.
• Example format: flyingshapes.<company>.<tld>

2. Required Network Ports

Clients must be allowed to connect to these servers using the specified ports:

The License Server requires an email account for user verification and password resets via SMTP.

Required SMTP Credentials:

• SMTP Host
• SMTP Port
• Account Name
• Account Password
• Email Address

Security & Encryption

• Collaboration Server: Always uses encrypted connections.
• License & AI Servers: If encrypted connections are required, a valid SSL/TLS certificate needs to be provided for the DNS names of the servers.

Required Information Before Installation

Before setting up Flyingshapes, please provide the following:

1. DNS Names for all servers
2. Port Configuration (if different from defaults)
3. SMTP Credentials (for email verification and password resets)
