Y11 February Mocks - English Language and English Literature

In the February mock exams, Year 11 will ‘sit’ two exam papers.

  1. Language Paper 2 = read two non-fiction sources - answer 4 reading questions, Section B - write a non-fiction response (letter, speech, article, essay or leaflet)
  2. Literature Paper 2 = ‘An Inspector Calls’, Power and Conflict Poetry Anthology, Unseen Poem and Unseen Poetry Comparison.

How can my child revise English Language Paper 2?

  1. Look at past papers - https://www.physicsandmathstutor.com/past-papers/gcse-english-language/aqa-paper-2/ 
  2. Look at past checkpoints completed in class that are part of Language Paper 2 - rewrite and perfect your answers.
  3. Buy a newspaper or a magazine and look at non-fiction writing in action! Local free newspapers are good, The Metro and the I newspaper, online.
  4. Write timed non-fiction responses: letter, speech, article, leaflet and essay - they have 45 minutes in the exam to plan and write their response.

How can my child revise English Literature Paper 2?

  1. Reread An Inspector Calls - this can be done in just a few hours!
  2. Reread or listen to the 15 poems in the Power and Conflict anthology: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi6TS0LHS3gbg8ygJzbqz_A - this website has an excellent collection of videos and revision of all the poems
  3. Look at unseen poems - simply type ‘GCSE unseen poetry’ into google and there will be lots of resources to help.
