The Superintendent shall assure adoption of a complaint procedure to resolve complaints alleging violation of these laws, assure that an evaluation of the District’s compliance with s. 118.13, Wis. Stats., is completed every five years under PI9, Wis. Admin. Code and submit Form PI-1197 to the Department of Public Instruction annually.

The art curriculum has been developed for and is offered to the student who has shown evidence of a special talent, interest, and creative potential in art.
There are four means for experiencing art: ART MAKING, ART CRITICISM, ART HISTORY AND AESTHETICS. The student will create art through the application of skills, techniques and processes appropriate to art media.
ART CONTENT: Drawing, Painting, Pottery, Printmaking, Sculpture, Crafts and Fibers.
The art classes will include sketchbook assignments, lecture, discussion, demonstration, critiques, studio experience, independent study, research and small group activity.

DESCRIPTION: Consumer Law focuses on a variety of legal issues. Students learn how our nation’s laws were formed and how criminal and civil laws differ. Special features such as “How to deal with an attorney” and “ What to do in Small Claims Court” will also be discussed.

DESCRIPTION: Learn Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop – two programs used widely throughout the art, business, scientific, design and multimedia industries. Build artwork in Illustrator and Photoshop. Don’t pay big bucks for this knowledge years from now! Learn it now while you’re still young, and while it’s free!

DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to help students learn more about themselves as well as explore a variety of career pathways. DESCRIPTION: This class is designed to introduce basic cooking skills to incorporate healthy choices and lifestyles through understanding the nutritional science behind foods and cooking methods. Students will learn about nutritional content, sanitary food preparations, family meal planning, and opportunities to make a wide variety of healthy quick meals and snacks. Students will safely use: Brazing torch, ovens, knives, food processor attachments, shredders, and other sharps and kitchen equipment.

DESCRIPTION: This course will be transcribed with Chippewa Valley Technical College. We will examine the different styles and theories of parenting. Students will study the different developmental stages of children and learn how to handle the conflict that sometimes arises from these differences. Students will also look at the importance of good parenting, and understand the skills needed to be a good parent.

DESCRIPTION: Ninth Grade English will focus on literature, writing, vocabulary, and oral presentation components. Students will study various aspects of literature through short stories, poetry, drama, and novels. Students will also continue working through the writing process by completing several writing assignments and improving computer skills. Vocabulary and grammar study continue to be components of the class as they were in junior high grades.

DESCRIPTION: Tenth Grade English continues to focus on literature including mythology, short stories, novels, and drama. Students also continue honing their writing and computer skills through the writing process, and developing their speaking skills through a formal speech unit. Several types of writing projects are completed this year, including persuasion and compare/contrast. This class will write a 3 page, MLA style, research paper, as well. Grammar and vocabulary work will be studied, practiced and reinforced throughout the class.

DESCRIPTION: Eleventh Grade English is a block class. Therefore, the work of an entire year is consolidated into 1 semester. This class contains an overview of American Literature through the combination of nonfiction and fiction selections. Attention will be drawn to common themes and genres that are rooted in the American experience. The class includes multiple writing components, including a 3 page, MLA style, research paper. The class also continues the reinforcement of computer skills, vocabulary, and grammar usage. Formal speaking opportunities remain a component of the class by way of various oral presentations.

DESCRIPTION: College Prep English is designed for students planning to continue their formal education after high school. The class requires a 3 page, MLA style, research paper. Students also write an autobiography in College Prep English. The class will continue to practice and reinforce vocabulary and grammar skills, along with components of formal speaking.

DESCRIPTION: Practical 12 English is a block class. Therefore, the work of an entire year is consolidated into 1 semester. Practical 12 English is designed to present senior level academic assignments that meet the needs of every level of senior in the class. Along with the routine components of the English language, the class also emphasizes the improvement of organizational and decision making skills. Most assignments of the class are project based and fellow student dependent which means that assignments are completed in the classroom during the class time provided. This class continues an emphasis on functional English skills including the reinforcement of strong writing skills, proper grammar usage, vocabulary study, and usable communication skills. Practical 12 English uses all of the elements of English that students have learned in previous years. The class includes various types of literature and opportunities for writing including a direction unit, a written communication unit, a speaking unit, short writing assignments, and an autobiography.

DESCRIPTION: Geometry will study fundamental geometry concepts: points, lines, planes, and angles through logical thinking. This will enable students to master complex topics such as area, volume of solids and inequalities. Formal and informal reasoning skills will be used which provide students with a good foundation in theory and application. Right triangle Trigonometry topics will also be introduced.

DESCRIPTION: Advanced Math 1 will provide a strong foundation in pre-calculus concepts, techniques and applications. Concentrations will be in Linear, Quadratic and Polynomial Functions, Inequalities, Exponents and Logarithms and a thorough coverage of Trigonometric concepts.

DESCRIPTION: The Symphonic Band provides the opportunity for students to experience many different styles of music, including classical, jazz, and rock styles. Students will study the style, compositional techniques, history, and culture of the works they are performing. Students will also develop team-building skills. The Symphonic Band performs 3 concerts a year, participates in a Large Group Festival/Clinic, marches at the Laura Days Parade, and performs as a Pep Band at all home conference sporting events. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in the Solo and Ensemble Festival held in April and a combined jazz band with Alma. Students are required to have a set amount of lessons each quarter with the instructor.

DESCRIPTION: Senior High Chorus is a performance class. Music for study is selected from vocal literature of the different historical periods of music, including contemporary styles. Students will review, expand, and apply concepts of (but not limited to): music theory, history, and style. The Chorus performs 3 to 4 scheduled concerts per year, plus at various civic events and clinics around the state, including Large Group Contest. Additional opportunities for solo and small group study are encouraged, including Honors Choirs, vocal jazz and solo & ensemble. Attendance for all concerts is required, and classroom attendance is vital to grading. Grading is based upon attitude, effort, lessons, and attendance.
Drama

DESCRIPTION: The class includes: Team work, relaxation, concentration, voice,acting, improvisation, character analysis, performance, scene work, monologues, audition skills, some basic theater vocabulary, and movie reviews. If acting and group speaking are not your strong points, join us for working with sets and pre-performance marketing. We will work towards a stage/production near the end of 1st semester.

DESCRIPTION: Hey all fitness fanatics. Or those maybe looking to get 10,000 steps a day and work on your overall strength. Do you have an interest in promoting our school athletic teams? This is the class for you. Design your own workouts or follow a program prescribed by Mr. Ingli. The workout part of the class will take place 3 days a week. The other 2 days, our class will focus on specific sport management items. Everything from taking pictures at athletic events, writing and researching sports articles, helping set up our athletic fields and courts, and even painting the Eagle mascot on the field. This course will have something for the competitive athlete all the way down to a person who would like to remain behind the scenes.

DESCRIPTION: Health education is a basic ingredient in a prevention formula. It can encourage the individual and the community to assume responsibility for the promotion of well-being and the prevention of disease and disability. The physical, emotional, social, and intellectual dimensions of each person are dynamically intertwined and are influenced by time, setting, situation, and other people. We identify ten major content areas as basic components of a comprehensive school health education program. They are: Accident Prevention and Safety; Community Health; Consumer Health; Environmental Health; Family Life Education; Mental and Emotional Health; Nutrition; Personal Health; Prevention and Control of Disease; Substance Use and Abuse.
COURSE NAME: Speed and Strength (Formerly Weight Lifting)

The course will consist of various daily activities designed to build students’ strength and speed levels. Students will go through a circuit of lifts each day, as well as plyometric (jumping exercises) and agility. Students are expected to participate to the best of their ability each day. This includes days when students may have a game or practice for the sport that they participate in. One day of the week, usually Friday, will be a “Game Day” where students will play a fitness game.

DESCRIPTION: This course introduces the general principles of physics and chemistry. Topics include measurement, Newton's laws of motion, momentum, energy, work, power, structure of atoms, the periodic table principles, and other chemistry principles. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the physical environment and be able to apply the scientific principles to observations experienced.

DESCRIPTION: This course consists of three basic units. The first unit emphasizes biological communities and ecosystems, exploring the interactions between organisms and the living and nonliving components of their environments. The second unit provides the facts and concepts of cellular biology. Included in this unit is a brief overview of Biochemistry specific for cellular activity. The third unit lays the foundation for taxonomy and introduces the fundamental phylogenetic relationships among major groups of living organisms. By the end of this course, students will have a basic understanding of ecosystems, biochemistry, heredity, and biological evolution and be able to apply the scientific principles to observations experienced.

DESCRIPTION: This Chemistry course is designed to meet the various curriculum requirements for beginners. It includes fundamentals of atomic structure, periodic table information, types of matter and their properties, chemical formulas and equations, nomenclature, solution concepts, ionization, oxidation-reduction equations, rate laws and reactions and acid/base concepts. This course is highly desirable for college bound students.

DESCRIPTION: This course explores the diversity of life on Earth. Topics will include protists, fungi, plants and animals. Local plant populations will be emphasized. Other topics will include wildlife management & diversity, GIS, environmental science, and human impact.

DESCRIPTION: Physics is the study of the inter-relationship of matter and energy. Topics in Physics proceed from simple observations, often-everyday phenomena, and move toward abstract generalizations along clear and logical paths of thought. Students will develop a strong foundation in Kinematics. Other topics that may be addressed include electricity and magnetism, thermodynamics, and Modern Physics if time allows. This course is highly desirable for college bound students.

DESCRIPTION: The Civics course examines the meaning as well as the spirit of the great ideals of the American Constitution such as federalism, separation of powers, checks and balances, equal justice and majority rule. In addition to a study of the federal government, the course devotes study to the framework of Wisconsin state and local government. Civics 9 also explores the global role of the United States through an examination of its foreign policy. Finally, Civics 9 examines the principles and workings of the American system of free enterprise.

DESCRIPTION: This course will cover eight units, which are representative of basic themes often examined in U.S. History. The eight units of the course include "Two Worlds and their Meeting in America", "Crisis Leading to the American Revolution", "Molding of a Nation-the U.S. Constitution", "Reform Movements in U.S. History", "The Civil War and Reconstruction", "Forces in the Development of Modern America", "The Cold War Years", (World War I and II are covered extensively during the World Civilization course), and "The Civil Rights Movement". As with the World Civilization course, U.S. History will also focus on linking geography to history through the five basic themes of geography. This course will also continue to address important history study skills as well as utilize the rhetorical modes of writing in essays that are required of the students.

DESCRIPTION: This course will examine the development of civilization from the beginnings of civilization, civilizations of the Mediterranean World, the world in transition during the Middle Ages, the revival of trade and the emergence of modern nations in Europe, the Renaissance, the Reformation and the Scientific Revolution that changed Europe, strong monarchies that developed in Europe, the development of industrial society, the World War in the twentieth century. This course will also focus on linking geography to history through the five basic themes in geography. DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to give students experiences in processing wood as a raw material to add value and produce products. The course will approach woodworking from several different aspects. Tool and shop safety will be the first area covered. Students empowered with these concepts will have a more productive experience in the class. The first project will be one assigned by the instructor, which will reinforce shop and tool safety, proper machine usage, and proper woodworking techniques that the students will learn in class. The second project will be designed, planned and produced by the student with the student providing materials.
