Evidence that demands a Second Reformation

The first reformation restored to the church the following doctrines: the priesthood of all believers, justification by faith and the concept that the Bible alone determines Christian doctrine and not the councils of the church. A second reformation would involve the restoration of the authority of the Bible. Since the mid 19th century the authority of the Bible has been undermined by the claims made by the academic community that the world is billions of years old, contrary to the Bible's claim that the world is a recent very good creation in which humans were created on day 6. The result of this undermining of the Bible has been a catastrophic collapse in Christianity in Europe and the complete ignoring of the Bible in formulating public policy. A second reformation which restored the authority of the Bible as God’s word should have a profound effect on public policy and hopefully increase the number of people who are open to the claims of Christianity.

The following are three strong lines of evidence that support the Bible’s claim that the earth was recently created:

Over 100 peer reviewed papers have been produced in the last 20 years that have shown that many fossils found throughout the geological column contain soft tissue (blood, DNA, collagen etc). Soft tissue can only last thousands of years, therefore these fossil bearing rocks can only be thousand of years old - they are not the product of long ages but are the product of a recent worldwide flood.

With regard to living organisms the recent mapping of the genetic code has meant we now know that the genetic code is almost entirely functional - there is no evidence of Junk DNA, our supposed evolutionary record. As a consequence we now have a powerful argument for intelligent design - so much so that there is now a website ‘dissent from Darwin’ in which 1200 scientists have agreed that they are sceptical about Darwin’s theory evolution being capable of explaining the complexity of life. Having established that life is intelligently designed, how old is this design? Professor John Sanford, in his 2005 book Genetic Entropy, points out that this design can only be thousands of years old because mutations destroy the genetic code, and natural selection is powerless to stop that process. Time is not evolution's friend, it is its enemy. Millions of years of mutations would destroy the design found in the genetic code and there is no process that can stop that effect. In the 20 years since the publication of his book John Sanford notes that not a single peer reviewed paper has been produced to refute his central argument.

A third line of evidence can be found in the decay of the earth’s magnetic field. Apart from the period of the flood and its aftermath where there were violent oscillations the magnetic field has experienced a steady decay. This decay is consistent with a recent creation but not consistent with an ancient earth. Interestingly when satellites have explored the solar system they have observed strong magnetic fields in many of the planets and these planets and their moons also show surprising signs of geological activity, which is consistent with a recent creation but inconsistent with an ancient solar system.
