2nd Class Resources and Book List 2020/2021

There are two sections in the Resources and Book List:  

1. Reference books, workbooks and copybooks purchased by the parents. These are books and copies that will be referenced or written into by your child during the school year and used by your child only.  
2. Items purchased by the school. By bulk-buying these items, we can get better prices on these items. We can also ensure that every child has the same brand, size and quality of item. This includes expendable items that will be used just this year such as paper and paint and also includes items that can be used for years to come such as PE resources and books for our book rental scheme - books that are not written into, can be used by numerous children, in various classes and over a number of years. In this section, we focus on different areas of school life each year. This year, for example, we are focusing on investing and using more digital-based learning tools and subscriptions. Other areas are focused on in other years.  

Please see attached for lists under each of the two areas.  

Further expenses expected during the school year are as follows - these amounts are not due now but you are advised to budget for them for later in the school year:  

• Possible school tours (3rd term) - dependent on future government recommendations
• Possible swimming classes - dependent on future government recommendations
• Fundraising initiatives and small trips throughout the year, generally €2-5 each - dependent on future government recommendations

Section 1 - Reference books, workbooks and copies, to be purchased by parents (Please do not cover or label these books until your child's teacher has confirmed that they have the right ones):

• 1 x 120 page Maths Copy (7mm)
• 3 x 120 page A11 Copy
• 1 x 100 Page Notebook (e.g. Supreme or Premier)
• 2 x Aisling Learn to Write B2 32 page copy
• 1 x A4 plastic folder, button close

This year, your child will need two stocked pencil cases - one for school and one for home.

We recommend that both pencil cases include the following items, all clearly labelled:

• red pen
• small ruler
• 2 x HB pencils
• 1 x sharpener
• 1 x eraser
• 2 glue sticks e.g. pritt stick  
• Colouring set such as crayons or colouring pencils

Additional items:

Due to the current circumstances, there are a number of additional items required for this school year:

• Wet gear: to facilitate the frequent cleaning of classrooms, pupils will go outside to the yard, whatever the weather. We are advising that all pupils would have their own wet gear - wellies, raincoat, rain trousers. These will be stored in school.
• Change of clothes: all pupils will need to have a spare change of clothes in the school building.
• Books from previous year: please ensure that your child brings in their books from last year.

*Please ensure that every item your child brings to school is clearly labelled, apart from workbooks (workbooks will be checked by the class teacher first)*

This year there is no reduced rate for siblings in the school due to the fact that the expenses have been reduced for everyone.
