Summary

In December 2017, ORMA will be running its elections for the Representative Council. This council will form one of the three primary bodies of ORMA governance.

Unaffiliated members will be electing 3 representatives to the Representative Council.

Caucus members who do not also belong to an affiliate will be allowed to vote for representation in both their caucus, and in the unaffiliated election.

In the weeks leading up to the December 17th election, you’ll hear more about how to vote. It will be an online election.

Detailed rules

ORMA members who are not members of Geographic Affiliates (such as OR Somerville, OR Fall River) or Virtual Affiliates count as “unaffiliated.”

After December 10th, you will be informed of all candidates for Unaffiliated Representative to the ORMA Representative Council, including their name, town, and zip code. You will be able to vote for multiple candidates.

Unaffiliated voters and candidates will be invited to join a Slack channel where they can discuss the election with the unaffiliated candidates and other unaffiliated voters. Simple campaign material will also be distributed via email broadcasts and social media.

The number of unaffiliated representatives that will be seated is defined as a percentage of affiliate representatives - specifically, no more than 10% of the number of affiliate representatives.  For this election cycle, we have determined this to be 3 unaffiliated representatives.

Unaffiliated Candidate Election Timeline

  1. December 10th, 2017 is the “filing deadline” for unaffiliated candidates. Shortly after this, you will learn who the candidates are.
  2. December 17th, 2017 is when the election for unaffiliated representatives will occur. This election will occur online, will be coordinated by the ORMA Elections Committee. We will make every effort to accommodate voters who find themselves unable to make use of the online process.
