A. ON-SITE PARTICIPANTS
The SPP Officers wish to make your stay during the SPP conference this year as comfortable as possible in this Islander environment.
- Presentation materials. All presentation materials are required to be submitted in advance using the provided links in https://spp-online.org/spp2023/ for uploading. All posters will be available at the SPP website for online viewing. Presentation slide decks will be assisted by SPP staff and streamed to the Zoom and the on-site screen using SPP laptops.
- Connectivity and WiFi. The LTE signal of your mobile network in the Island may be limited. SPP has a very limited bandwidth procured for the event and our dataline is dedicated for streaming. Make sure you have enough data credit load with your network provider for your Internet connectivity needs.
- Weather and attire. Siargao is a tropical island with hot and humid weather. Light rain is almost a daily occurrence. At the same time, the venue of the conference (Del Carmen Convention Center and Bayay Numancia) will be cooled by electric fans (not air conditioner). To improve the overall experience in the conference, we recommend that attendees dress in lightweight and breathable attire, such as t-shirts, in consideration of the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions.A more accurate prediction may be found using many online weather apps such as windy.com and the PAGASA website.
- Water canteen, cups. It is highly recommended to bring your own small-sized water canteen. The Municipality of Del Carmen discourages the use of single-use plastic materials. Refilling water stations (purified drinking water) will be available.
- Cash transactions. The island may have problems with ATM and other cashless transactions. Please bring cash and expect cash transactions in all commerce while on the island.
- Medicine and toiletries. Those with special medicines and toiletry requirements should bring their own. For instance, some homestay accommodations may not be able to provide your preferred towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.
- Extra curricular activities. Activities beyond the conference schedule will be made available by the information desk of the Tourism Office of Del Carmen in front of Bayay Numancia.

B. VAN TRANSPORT SERVICES
Guest speakers are recommended to contact our Secretariat (secretariat@spp-online.org) for their transport services, if they prefer to. Other participants may arrange by group or utilize the discounted rates.
Participants. For the rest of the participants, rates are arranged with the STSC van transportation services in the Island of Siargao. The following were the agreed usual rates. Each van has up to 10 passengers but some drivers are apprehensive if the van is fully occupied.
The following offers are only for STSC Van Services.
- Per pax rates: Discounted fare per pax per trip. Conditions:
- Only for SPP Participants from Sayak Airport
- PhP150 fare from Airport to Del Carmen (vs. on-going rate of 200)
- PhP 250 fare from Airport to General Luna.(vs. on-going rate of 300)
- To avail of this, at arrival look for Junjun of STSC and provide the means of identification (must be registered in advance) that will be announced soon. No need to directly contact the service provider.
- Per pax rate every evening from DC will be arranged for participants. A list of potential passengers may be given during the event.
- Whole day rental: 5,000 per van. Conditions:
- Negotiated only for General Luna - Del Carmen / Sayak Airport routes.
- Rate not beyond 6pm. Excess charge is 500 per hour in excess.
- Assumed not for visiting “too many” municipalities.
- Luggages and other loads are counted for space and weight.

- Per trip rental: 2,000 per van per trip. Conditions:
- Negotiated only for General Luna - Del Carmen / Sayak Airport routes.
- Should have a reasonable number of passengers less than 10 pax.

C. ON-LINE PARTICIPANTS
Resources available for online participants are found in the Zoom Events page accessible via your registered Zoom account.
- Zoom app. Ensure that you have the latest Zoom app version for your operating system before the conference to avoid technical problems.
- Zoom account to access Events. Make sure that the email used for registration is the same with your Zoom account. Kindly notify our secretariat (secretariat@spp-online.org) if this is not the case to avoid technical problems during the conference. For those who are using institutional accounts further make sure to click the SSO option as appropriate during login.
- Presentation materials. All presentation materials are required to be submitted in advance using the provided links in https://spp-online.org/spp2023/ for uploading. - “After-conference party” moved from July 21, 2023 to Jul 20, 2023 The local government unit of the municipality of Del Carmen, Siargao Island will provide free Siargao Island styled entertainment to the on-site participants of the SPP2023. This will be hosted after the conference banquet dinner on thursday, Jul 20, 2023. There will be no more after-conference event on Friday, Jul 21, 2023.
D. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM UPDATE
- We have corrected the time of the start of the Keynote session by Prof. Roger Freedman on July 19, 2023. The time is now from 8:45 am - 9:45 am. The longer session will allow the participants to fully appreciate the information shared by the Keynote Speaker.
