Paragraph 1 – Who are you and why are you making this speech?

I’m Taisorn and I am here to talk about Pollution.  Pollution is the introduction of harmful materials into the environment. These harmful materials are called pollutants. Pollutants can be natural, such as volcanic ash. Pollutants can be, and are also created by human activity, such as trash and runoff that is produced by factories.

Paragraph 2 – What is your first point?

Not many people know this, but pollution actually has the ability to make us feel sad and depressed.  Research shows that pollution can make us feel negatively about the world and ourselves. It can keep us indoors when we want to be outside - imagine if the air got so polluted, we had to stay inside forever! You’d go crazy!  It can also lead to violent and self-destructive behaviour.  This affects all of us, whether we are aware of it or not.

Paragraph 3 – What is your next point?

Pollution creates sickness.  Research shows that people who live in places with high levels of air pollutants have a 20% higher risk of death from lung cancer than people who live in less polluted areas.  We cannot live without air.  What are we going to do if there is no more breathable air? We would be probably be staying at home trying to get air.

Paragraph 4 – What is your third point?

Pollution is harmful towards animals especially marine life.

`Marine wildlife such as seabirds, whales, fish and turtles mistake plastic waste for prey; most then die of starvation as their stomachs become filled with plastic. They also suffer from lacerations, infections, reduced ability to swim, and internal injuries.

What is the final point that you want your listeners to hear from you?

I have told you about the consequences of pollution.  We are the number 1 contributors to it, which means it is our job to help end it.
