The Grand Pauper Championship Season 1

Version 1.0 - 22th January 2023

(IMPORTANT: This document is part of an iteration process and can be updated with new information or changes)

The Grand Pauper Championship is a Berlin-based Magic:The Gathering Tournament series focusing on the Pauper format.

Pauper is a Magic:The Gathering constructed format where you build a deck with 60 (+15 sideboard) cards from every set it’s available in the history of Magic. The only restriction is that you are only allowed to use common cards.

Tournament Guide

The tournament series are following the ruleset of Wizards of the Coast Competetive Rules Enforcement Level. There are 6 stage tournaments followed by a Grand Final to find the pauper champion at the end of the season.

12 players can directly qualify for the Grand Final by placing 1st and 2nd in the stage tournaments. 6 additional players are qualifying via a point system (18 players in total for the grand final). These points are given to the players after every stage tournament. If a player is already taken a spot in the Grand Final over a direct invitation by placing 1st or 2nd in the stage tournaments he can’t get a second spot for the Grand Final. The Player with the next higher score will take the place.

After the regular season (6 stage tournaments) the 3 players with the most points (MVPs) will get an additional prize pool funded by the Stage Tournaments. The prize pool will be finalized after the last Stage tournament

Prizepool

The Prizepool is Crowdfunded by the entry fee of every attendant who will participate at the stage tournaments and split into

50% will mainly directly share to the top 8 of the state tournament

30% will go to the grand final prize pool

20% will go to the MVP Pool

The total prize pool for the grand final and MVP will be updated after every stage tournament in this document

Total Prizepool after Stage 5: 500 EURO

Grand Final: 300 EUR

MVP: 200 EUR

The Grand Final and MVP prize pool will be given back 100% to players in non-cash Magic:The Gathering-related prices e.g Single Cards and booster

Every Local Gamestore is allowed to organize their prize pool by their requirements for the direct split of the stage tournament.
