How Enrollment Appointments are Determined

Phases

For Fall and Spring semesters, student enrollment occurs over three enrollment periods: Phase 1, Phase 2, and Adjustment Period. New students will only have a Phase 1 and Adjustment Period. For Summer Sessions, one enrollment period is open for all students. During each period, you can add, drop, swap, and update classes. Updates include actions such as changing the grading basis to P/NP or switching discussion sections. You may not make any changes to your classes outside these three phases.

Please see the Office of Registrar for current enrollment period dates and details.

Unit limits

It is important to understand how many units you can register for during each period, as described in Unit limits. Particularly during Phase 1, you should prioritize enrolling in major requirements and in-demand courses that will fill quickly.

Updating your schedule

Once your enrollment appointment starts for a phase, you can make updates to your schedule anytime until that phase ends. Once Phase 1 ends, you cannot make any changes to your schedule until your Phase 2 enrollment appointment. You will not be able to add classes, but you will also not be able to drop classes, set up a swap, or make any changes to your class options

Enrollment Appointments

Students are assigned staggered enrollment appointments for Phase 1 and Phase 2. Your enrollment appointment is the date and time you can begin enrolling and making updates to your schedule. For example, if your appointment is 10 a.m. Thursday, you will not be able to register for classes until then, even though Phase 1 officially starts at 9 a.m. on Monday. After your enrollment appointment starts, you can make changes at any time until the end of the phase.

Check CalCentral > My Academics > Class Enrollment for your assigned appointment times.

How Enrollment Appointments are Determined

Enrollment appointments are determined by the number of semesters a student has completed at UC Berkeley; start dates and times are randomly generated. New transfer students are considered to have four terms completed.
