  1. Principals' report

294 students this year -more in Kindergarten and less students in gr.7&8.  Good start to the school year. Grade 6s from Best have settled in nicely.  Open House was phenomenal with halls full from 5:30-7:30. It was the first time that some parents saw the inside of the school.  Clubs and teams are up and running.  98 students participating in cross country on Thursday.  $1500 was raised for Terry Fox Foundation.  There is excitement for what could happen this year.

Focus is for assessment practices and communication with home to close some of the gaps from the last couple of years.  A lot of needs in our school community with mental health for families and staff.

Eco Warriors received platinum award last year.  Student leadership starting up to raise the input from students.

Jungle Sport is one option we are looking into for Christmas time. Chris is in communication with them to set a date.

Training on how to safely and wisely use social media is a focus for this school year for students and families.  Paul Davis was used for staff workshop in the past. Telus has community ambassadors that come into schools with a program.

Social development skills – problem solving and tenacity is another focus.

  1. Treasurer's Report

$18 162 is our current account.  Pizza account is $15 704.58.  $612.06/week is spent on pizza.

Full account after pizza = $5 308.74

Jungle sport is $4000.  Chris has reached out to them.  It was approved from last year’s council.

3) General Items:

a) Council Meeting calendar: Dec 5, Feb 6, April 3, June 5

b) Fall Calendar: Catalyst to cultivate community in the school is the goal.

- Ideas for fall events:

* fundraiser with Terra for poinsettias – delivery days at the end of Nov/start Dec. Centrepieces, porch decorations.  Form plus online ordering.  Information will be collected this week to be shared with council.

* Fun activities at a holiday concert or a school event in the fall

* Movie nights – provide snacks

* spirit wear – reuse/exchange as well as new orders

* Jack’o’lantern auction – kids make them and auction them off

* send gifs/pictures to add to the school’s social media accounts

* is there a way to have translate options for the school messages?

* add to the council section on the school website??  Right now it is just the agenda and meeting minutes.

* book fair – hopefully being booked for the Nov PA day/parent conference week.  It is usually run by the school instead of council.

* bring a friend night to a school council and social event after meetings – ideas from DCB

* create a google doc for the council members to share fundraising ideas, look for helpers
