A Progression of HorseSense Skills

YELLOW FOX - LEVEL TWO 

___  Jog horse in hand, with safe technique, as though jogging for soundness.  

___  Blanket and remove blanket from horse safely.  

___  Correctly apply splint boots, bell boots, and shipping boots. Know what each
       is used for and which vital areas are protected.  

___  Clean and condition a saddle, bridle & girth, knowing reasons for each step.

___  Reassemble saddle and bridle without assistance.

         ___  Care for a horse after a workout, to include:
                ___ Cooling out
                ___  Thorough grooming and post-ride inspection

                 ___  Appropriate feeding and watering.

         ___  Know normal TPR range for a horse, and discuss how to take TPR.  

         ___  Know basic colors and markings.  

         ___  Know basic types and breeds of the horse.  

         ___  Know how to measure a horse for height.  

         ___  Know reasons for basic feeding principles, to include discussion of
                 roughage and concentrates.  

         ___  Know signs of colic and action to take.  

         ___  Know which injuries can be handled with minor treatment and which need
                 veterinary attention.
