CRO’s report, Norfolk Police Department.
Officer Ryan Logan, Norfolk Police Department.
First Precinct, Community Resource Officer, Blue Sector
2500 North Military Hwy Norfolk, VA 23502
757-664-6900, 757-570-8148
Officer Logan’s update: Stats are very low. 2 car larcenies (one was an unlocked vehicle); stolen package from porch; 2 stolen bikes; burglary from residence on 49th St. NPD does have an idea about the car larcenies; one person was arrested. Officer Logan is hopeful that the car larcenies will lessen because of that arrest. Nevertheless, be sure to lock your car doors!
Related cautionary note. Nate witnessed a DUI collision at Hampton Blvd & Little Creek this past Sunday night at 11:10pm. He described it as a “t-bone at the intersection.” A car ran the red light going North on Hampton and collided with turning vehicle making a left onto Hampton Southbound. Virginia Port police were the first responders, followed by the Norfolk Fire Department after about 15 minutes. Norfolk Police took 40 minutes to respond. We know that our police department is spread very thin – the department is dealing with many vacancies; this issue is being addressed by the city manager and council. From the time of the incident to the time that first responders arrived, the folks in the offending vehicle (driver and four passengers) had time to switch drivers, dump multiple containers of alcohol, and leave on foot.
Presentations/New Business/Announcements & Updates
Larchmont Area Sanitary Sewer Improvements (LASSI)
Note: There will be more updates in upcoming meetings. Generally, we do know that Larchmont-Edgewater will be going from 8 existing pump stations to 5 pump stations. The city is paying for 1/3 of the cost; 2/3 being paid for by HRSD. The estimated project cost has increased dramatically – so the entire project is being reviewed. Need to stay within budget of $21M. City and HRSD will brainstorm solutions/options and update the Civic League when a decision has been made. NB: The existing pump stations are in working order.
Norfolk Cares. Neighbors have had mixed levels of success working with this Norfolk agency: 664-6510. On the topic of street sweeping, the department has not been responsive to requests for information, at least to date. Streets have not been swept for 3 months.
Reminder: Your Civic League can help resolve neighborhood concerns – do feel free to reach out to your officers for help.
Dominion Repair Work update. Dominion will be working on facilities upgrades in our neighborhood. Work will be on the west side (Edgewater side) of Hampton Blvd on various streets. There will be tree-trimming involved. No power outages are required (no planned outages). Dominion will do its best to minimize the impact on residents. River City and ABC Tree Trimming are sub-contractors to Dominion for this work. Click on the link for details, including a map!
Update on Triangle Park courtesy of John White, Stormwater Engineer, City of Norfolk. (Berm and bulkhead). The bids were received on this project about a week ago. The apparent low bidder is Carolina Marine Structures with a total bid of $799,500. Other bidders included Crofton Construction Services, Parkway Grading, Inc., and T. J. Crooks. An award will take approximately 2-3 months. We should see work underway this summer (2022). Open question: Will there still be benches at the conclusion of the work? Nate will follow-up on this question with Mr. White.
