Lunch & Popcorn Program Coordinator

The St. Gemma Catholic School Council (CSC) is looking for a responsible and caring individual (or two) to run the Lunch & Popcorn Program for the 2019-20 school year. This program provides meals (currently a rotation of pita sandwiches, pizza, and hotdogs) and popcorn snacks once a week (generally on Fridays, or Thursdays if there’s a PD Day) to over 250 students and staff.  It is a VITAL source of revenue for the CSC, supporting extra-curricular activities for students and a variety of community-building events.

The new Coordinator would be responsible for all aspects of planning, coordinating, and running a successful Lunch & Popcorn Program at St. Gemma. It is a volunteer position (i.e. no compensation for time or gas), requiring 6-9 hours/week for approximately 34 weeks (Oct-June).  

The new Lunch & Popcorn Program Coordinator will:

• Plan meals three times a year and develop a schedule (in accordance with Ontario’s School Food and Beverage Policy, and taking into consideration other planned events by CSC and the school)
• Revise promotional materials (take-home flyer and order menu)
• Set-up and make entries in the online ordering system
• Collect orders and payments (cash, cheques, online transactions)
• Make bank deposits and arrange to pay vendors (with the Treasurer)
• Manage a list of orders for students and staff
• Pick up food and supplies
• Coordinate parent volunteers and student helpers once a week at the school (from ~10:45 am to 12:15 pm)
• Follow safe food handling procedures
• Set up serving tables
• Pre-cook and package individual meals (with help from volunteers)
• Clean up the kitchen/staff room
• Keep accurate records and submit receipts to the Treasurer
• Report at CSC meetings (second Tuesday of every month)
• Have a valid Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check (aka police record check)
• Have access to a vehicle for transporting groceries and other supplies

Qualifications:

• Excellent organizational skills
• Always act in a professional manner, maintaining the highest of ethics and respecting confidentiality (e.g. absentee list, financial information)
• Have access to the online ordering system (computer/tablet/cellular)
• Works well under pressure and adaptable (e.g. missed deadlines; assisting clients when they have difficulties ordering; orders arrive early or late; absent volunteers)
• Capable of working independently and as a team player (working amicably with school staff, volunteers, student helpers, and vendors)
• Good communication skills (to designate tasks, deal with problems, and express concerns or issues pertaining to the program)
