Important Dates

Learner Led Conferences

Teams have begun scheduling Learner Led Conferences for October 27 & 28. There is NO SCHOOL for these two days. If you have not gotten a Google link or paper copy to sign up for your conference, please talk with your student to learn how to sign up for their team. If you are still needing more information, please contact your student’s advisory teacher.

Hurricane Ian collections: HMS Advisories will be collecting clothing items for the students of Lexington Middle School in Ft. Meyers, FL who were greatly affected by Hurricane Ian. Informational Flier Informational Video

Patriot’s Pen Essay:

The Highland VFW Post 5694 is offering an opportunity for students in grades 6-8 to write an essay with the theme “My Pledge to Our Veterans”. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards will be given out.  The first-place winner will  move on to the District level and State level. Students can win as much as $5,000.  Please see your Language Arts teachers for a flier and other information about the essay contest.  Essays are due Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Lions Club Peace Poster

The Highland Lions Club is hosting their annual Peace Poster Contest. This year’s contest theme is: LEAD WITH COMPASSION. Students who are interested in participating should see their Social Studies or Geography teacher. Posters are due in the office by Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Ronald McDonald House fundraiser:

Highland Middle School is collecting can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Please collect tabs off of drink cans, pet food cans, and fruit/vegetable cans.  We have until the first weekend of May to collect as many as we can! The collection container is located by the information desk in the plaza.

America Recycles Day Poster Contest:

HMS Haunted Hallway

Presented by the HMS Student Council, the Haunted Hallway will take place on Saturday, October,  

HMS Clubs

Model UN:

Meetings will be held every Monday from 2:45-4pm in the HMS library. All students must have a ride home afterwards.

FCA Meetings:

FCA meetings will begin on October 18 and be held every other week on Tuesday from 7-8 in the HMS Gym.

IMSA Fusion:

There is no meeting this week, October 19, due to 1:30 dismissal. Our next meeting is next Wednesday, October 26. If students would still like to join IMSA Fusion, we are still accepting members! Please contact Mrs. Coziar or Mrs. Bernal. kcoziar@highlandcusd5.org

Athletics   

Saturday October 15:

Open Registration

There are no sports currently open for registration on the athletic website.

Dance Team: 

Practices are held every Monday and Wednesday 2:45-4:00 pm and every Tuesday and Friday from 2:45-5:00 pm. Coach will communicate variations in this schedule.

Boys Basketball:

Girls Basketball:

Upcoming Intramurals:

Dungeons and Dragons: 10/17, 19, 26 Time: 2:45-4:00 pm

Signups are now closed. If you would like to be added to the waitlist please stop in the office and give your name to Kateri or Berta.

Disc Golf: 10/17, 18, 20 Time: 2:45-4:00 pm

Disc Golf Intramural is now open for registration. There is an interest signup sheet on the information desk in the plaza, as well as flyers. The first 18 students to sign up and pay will be allowed to participate. Cost is $15.

CTE Blitz: 10/18, 20, 25, 26 Time: 2:45-4:15 pm @ HHS

Learn, practice, and apply important skills related to cooking, agriculture, engineering, and more!  This will be held at Highland High School and led by CTE teachers Dawn Jones, Emily Stille, Chris Durbin, Melissa Perkes, Amy Brink, & Jenna Offerman.  Students will walk across to HHS after school.
