LucidSpark, an online collaborative whiteboard, offers dynamic ways to work together in a live shared space. The Lucid Visual Collaboration Suite, including LucidSpark and LucidSpark, is integrated in Canvas. It offers pre-created templates, a simple user interface, and options to work collaboratively or independently on a page or assignment.

Getting Started: Activate Lucid Account

Lucid is integrated in Canvas and has been added to the course navigation menu.

  1. Select Lucid Whiteboard to activate your account. Follow onscreen prompts to access to the Lucid Integration, including LucidChart and LucidSpark

Option 1: Create an Assignment

Collaborative Assignment – Shared LucidSpark Board

Students can collaborate directly on LucidSpark in Canvas.

  1. Create a new Canvas assignment
  1. Set the submission as “No Submission” because students collaborate on the same document.
  1. Select the LucidSpark icon from the formatting toolbar.

  1. Choose an existing document or a Lucid Library template. Select “Open in Lucidspark” to work in full screen mode..
  2. Select the desired collaboration settings from Edit, Comment Only, or View Only.

  1. Save the assignment.

Individual Assignment – Unique Copy

To have students work independently, select Lucid as the submission type. Assignment submissions display in Speedgrader.

  1. Create a new assignment in Canvas.
  2. In the Rich Content Editor, add assignment instructions.
  3. Under Submission Type, select Lucid.

  1. Follow onscreen prompts to choose or create a Lucid document.

  1. Complete  assignment details and save.

Note: Upon student submission, SpeedGrader displays a PDF version; therefore, any student revisions to the document are not visible unless it is resubmitted. We recommend including this note in the assignment description.

Option 2: Embed Lucid in the RCE

  1. Open any content block with the Rich Content Editor (page, assignment, etc.).
  2. Select the LucidSpark icon from the formatting toolbar.

  1. Create a new document: Lucidchart (diagram) or Lucidspark (whiteboard):
