This weeks marks the end of my first term at Anchorage Park School and what a term it has been! I feel very privileged to have been so warmly welcomed by the staff, students, whānau and Board of Trustees. There have been many highlights including that infamous whole school “selfie” in the first week of term, our very first ever powhiri, the arrival of our student teacher Mrs Quinn, class swimming sessions, PTA Family Fun Night, Mrs Field’s science classes, Mr Yoon’s coding classes, art with Mrs Scott, cricket coaching, Dog Safety sessions, Learning Conferences and the ARL Warriors visit. Still to come this term is our Poppy/Mufti Day on Friday and the installation of brand new shelving in our Resource Room in the holidays.
Next term promises to be no less exciting with weekly UCan2 Fun & Fit dance classes run by Tarsh Sharp, art sessions at Te Tuhi Art Centre for all classes, the planning & construction of our outdoor classroom and Treemendous Makeover spaces (official planting day on 28 July), more student teachers, Leadership programme, Rainbow Reading programme, Jammies Mufti Day, PTA Pizza Lunch, portfolios & reports coming home and learning conferences. Finally, during Term 2 and 3 we will be seeking your feedback on what we are already doing well, as well as what areas you think we need to develop to ensure our tamariki have a positive and successful experience at Anchorage Park School. There will be surveys and whānau meetings scheduled and we encourage everyone to participate so you can have your say. Please stay up-to-date by regularly checking in with our Facebook page and/or Skool Loop app (which also has our school calendar dates) in between newsletters.

The swimming season has been fabulous this term but the pool is now closed out of school hours. Please return your key to the office as soon as possible.
Whole School Assemblies
A hectic Term 1 and very hot and humid weather led to our decision to delay whole school assemblies. We warmly invite you to attend our assembly this Friday (13th) at 2:20pm. Please note that this is the last day of Term 1 and is also our Poppy Day - Mufti Day. There will be two class items and awards presented. In Term 2 our whole school assemblies will be held on 11 May, 25 May, 15 June and 6 July.
New this term are the Principal’s Morning Tea awards. At the end of each term the class teachers will nominate one student who has been an exemplary role model in their class - demonstrating our school values, taking responsibility for their own learning and persevering if things get tricky. The eight students will have morning tea with Ms Johnston including juice and light snacks. A letter informing parents will be sent home in advance to ensure we are aware of any dietary requirements. This term the morning tea will be held on Thursday 12 April @ 10:00am and letters will come home on Monday 9 April if your child has been selected.
Do you know any businesses who may be interested in sponsoring a VisTab system for our office? VisTab is an automated health and safety sign in and out system for our students, staff, relieving teachers, volunteers, contractors and visitors to the school. If you know someone who is able to sponsor us, either for a one-off amount or cover some of the $45 per month costs, their business and branding will be displayed on the front screen of the tablet which will be seen by thousands of visitors each year. We will also acknowledge their support on our website and social media. To find out more please contact the office on 5769175 or firstname.lastname@example.org
The uniform shop is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, before and after school or by appointment. Please note that the shop is closed on Thursday. We apologise for any inconvenience.
The majority of families have returned the completed Digital Citizenship/Cybersafety forms to the office. If your form has been lost we are happy to send another home. In Term 2 we are taking photos around the school for our new website which will go live later this year. Please let us know in writing (or indicate on the form) by Monday 30 April if you prefer that your child does not appear in any school images which may be used in our promotional material for our website, Facebook page and/or brochures.
