Educational Program

Background and Context

Nithyananda Hindu University (NHU)  was established by His Divine Holiness Gurumahasannisadham Bhagwan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam to bring the best of the oldest living spiritual tradition, Sanatana Hindu Dharma to the world. More than 20 million people have greatly benefited and drawn inspiration from the knowledge of the ancient Hindu scriptures made current, user-friendly and empowered by His Divine Holiness Bhagwan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam.

These teachings are based on source Hindu scriptures of the Vedas[1], and Agamas[2]. The Vedas are the pure science and the Agamas are the applied science of super-conscious breakthrough. These Hindu scriptures are direct revelations of the cosmic intelligence and deal with specialized knowledge, precise technical methodologies in a wide variety of areas that support conscious expansion for all human beings.

Svayambu Linga at the Nithyanandeshwara Paramashiva Devalayam, Bidadi, India

A branch of Agama is the ancient Shaiva Agamas[3] (Agamas that belong to Hindu Shaivite tradition) are a compendium of texts that cover various theoretical and practical aspects of life, worship, sciences, and understanding of the cosmos for Hindus who follow Shaivism. The origin and practice of Shaiva traditions goes back to Lord Paramashiva (the primordial Guru[4]). Although scholars provide supporting proofs to date the origin of Shaivism, it is well established that the practice pre-dated the recording.

Lord Paramashiva had established the super-science of Living Enlightenment through twenty three enlightenment ecosystems known as Sarvajnapeethas[5] (the all-knowing seat) in Nalanda, Taxila, Kanchipuram and 20 other locations.

His Divine Holiness Bhagwan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam is the 233rd Pontiff in this ancient line of Pontiffs of the Kancheepuram Thondaimandala Adheenam is the heir to the Sarvajnapeetha in Kanchipuram. He is reviving this ancient authentic knowledge transmission system through the NHU. Thus, followers of Paramashiva as initiated by His Divine Holiness Bhagwan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam follow a well-established, ancient tradition even today.

Shastra Pramana

Pramana can be translated as ‘means of knowledge’ and it pertains to the epistemology (investigating the source of knowledge by pure questioning) that is unique to Hindu traditions. Shastra Pramanas are those that are found in Hindu scriptures recorded in varied languages such as Sanskrit, Tamil, Hindi and so on.

NHU strives to present the authentic references from the Shastras which are codified in verses. Each verse is densely packed with information regarding the cosmic truths, the method of practice to realize this truth, and the depth of information that opens while practicing the process. This is called as Shastra Pramana.

Hinduism has 20 million source books of which around 2 million are available today. The curriculum of each certificate course offered by NHU is explicitly sourced from these Hindu Scriptures.

Hindu Scriptures

Hindu Scriptures are the vast, expansive universe of texts, truly mind-boggling in their sheer magnitude, diversity, breadth, depth, and range. Traditionally, this universe is intuitively organized broadly into six classical heads of Shruti, Smriti, Itihasa, Purana, Agama and Darsana. Besides, the secular texts are organized as Subhasitas, Kavyas, Natakas and Alankaras.

Shruti means “that which has been heard,'' the unquestionable Truth, eternal. The four Vedas, Rig, Yajur, Saama, Atharva, are Shrutis. All these are direct, intuitional revelations not ascribed to any

specific author, and accepted as directly revealed to the Rishis by Sadashiva. Each Veda in turn is broadly classified into four groups of texts, Samhita, Aranyaka, Brahmana, Upanishad.

Rigveda means the Veda of Adoration and mostly contains verses adoring or adulating deities, but also numerous life-guiding principles. Yajurveda refers to acts of worship such as oblations made into

Agni or Fire. Samaveda places great emphasis on the sound of the words in the mantras for it to accomplish the benefits of the purpose for which they were chanted. Atharvaveda contains exquisite

poetry much of it being glorification of the curative powers of herbs and waters.

Upanishads are texts discussing meditation, philosophy and spiritual knowledge. They form the concluding portion of the Vedas are therefore also called ‘Vedanta’. There are as many as 112

Upanishads available today. But the major Upanishads are Isha, Kena, Kattha, Prashna, Mundaka, Mandukya, Taittiriya, Aitareya, Shwetashwatara, Chhandogya and Brihadaryanyaka. The Isha-upanishad emphasizes the identity of the human soul with the divine soul. The Kena-upanishad discusses the qualities of the divine essence (Brahman) and the relationship of the gods to the divine

essence. The Katha-upanishad, through the story of Nachiketa, discussed death and the permanence of the soul (Atman).

Smriti is that which is remembered, and pertains to worldly application of the eternal principles.

Smritis have been passed down from great rishis and acharyas to their shishyas (students) over countless generations and centuries. Smriti has many classifications such as Dharma Shastra, Upa

Veda, Vedanga, Dharsana, Purana, Itihaasa.

There are two forms of Smritis, Sutra and Shastra. Sutra is

akin to formula, rule-based. Shastra is the related Science, such as the Manusmriti which incidentally is an authoritative and seminal compendium of Vedic Law. Upa Veda are the sciences such as Ayurveda (Life Sciences), Dhanur Veda (warfare), Stapatya Shastra

(building sciences).

Vedanga describes language structure, Itihaasa means recounting as it happened, factual history such as the world renowned Ramayana and Mahabharata. Dharsana, the various dominant philosophies, such as Vedanta, has the most famous scripture Bhagvad Gita. Purana, as the name implies, is exhaustive record of ancient history, and there are 18 such Mahapuranas. There are Puranas in Tamil also. The divine leelas (divine play) of Lord Siva are recorded in the Tamil Puranas like Siva Purana, Periya Purana, Siva Parakramam and Tiruvilayadal Purana.

Agama, literally meaning Bequeathed, and so elegantly defined by HDH Nithyananda Paramashivam:

Delivered by Sadāshiva, received by Devi, adopted as the Cosmic Constitution by the maintainer, Vishnu, is Agama. Each Agama is voluminous and encyclopedic in nature, with painstaking and

elaborate detail of literally every aspect of life. The Agama literature is humongous and includes 28 Shaivagamas, 77 Shakta Agamas, which are also called tantras, and 215 Vaishnava Agamas.

A lot of palm leaf manuscripts relate to the ancient system of medicine called Siddha, a traditional Tamil system of medicine. The uniqueness of Siddha System is evident by its continuous service to

humanity for thousands of years in combating diseases and also in maintaining its physical, mental and moral health while many of its contemporaries have become extinct.

That kundalini of Sambhu(Shiva) is eternally pure. But it is of inert nature. As such, it does not exist in an identical relationship with Shiva(as the Shivashakti is). It remains as the assumptive power of Shiva (parigraha shakti, that is, taken hold of when needed, left out when not needed). But in Shivashakti, there exists identical relationship with the Ultimate Lord. Kundalini shakti does exist in such relationship with Shiva for the reason that it is a material cause only, just as the clay which is the material cause for the pot does not exist in identical relationship with the potter.

Oh best of sages, fifteen twinklings of the eye make a Kāṣṭhā; thirty Kāṣṭhās, one Kalā; and thirty Kalās, one Muhūrtta[3]. Thirty Muhūrttas constitute a day and night of mortals: thirty such days make a month, divided into two half-months: six months form an Ayana (the period of the sun's progress north or south of the ecliptic): and two Ayanas compose a year. The southern Ayana is a night, and the northern a day of the gods. Twelve thousand divine years, each composed of (three hundred and sixty) such days, constitute the period of the four Yugas, or ages. They are thus distributed: the Krita age has four thousand divine years; the Tretā three thousand; the Dvāpara two thousand; and the Kali age one thousand: so those acquainted with antiquity have declared. The period that precedes a Yuga is called a Sandhyā, and it is of as many hundred years as there are thousands in the Yuga: and the period that follows a Yuga, termed the Sandhyānsa, is of similar duration. The interval between the Sandhyā and the Sandhyānsa is the Yuga, denominated Krita, Tretā, &c. The Krita, Tretā, Dvāpara, and Kali, constitute a great age, or aggregate of four ages: a thousand such aggregates are a day of Brahmā, and fourteen Menus reign within that term. Hear the division of time which they measure[4].

The individual soul is called ""pasu', due to the association of the veiling darkness, pasutra with it. The liberated soul, which is disentangled from the pasutra, is not to be called ""pasu Essentially, the soul is endowed with its inherent power of consciousness and action, even while it is bereit of the factors such as kala and others which partially manifest such powers in the soul. The soul, by its own nature, is with absolute lordshipnisvarah); it is all pervasive: very subtle. Therefore it shinesforth like Siva Himself.

That which serves as the material cause for the product of objects to be experienced by the embodied souls and for the efficacy of experiencing(bhogtrutva) such products and which
gives rise to various bodies , organs, instruments and others befitting the souls is known as maya. This maya exists associated with the karmic effects of the bound souls.

Even though Anantesvara and others are associated with body and instruments well tuned to their places of existence, they do not become deluded or stupefied by their association with
body and the instruments. Moreover, all those who exist in the pure adhva are free from the karmic bonds. For such pure souls, how could there be their existence in the tattvas evolved from the impure maya such as kala and others? Existence in these tattvas could be
possible only because of the karmic bonds. Therefore, there is another material cause which serves as the source for their body, instruments and others. O, the excellent among the twice-born Sages!, for this pure path consisting of siva tattva and others, the causal source
is bindu only, also called kundalini. This bindu alone could function in conformity with the pure path.

That kundalini of Sambhu(Siva) is eternally pure. But it is of inert nature. As such, it does not exist in an identical relationship with Siva(as the Sivasakti is). It remains as the assumptive power of Siva (parigraha sakti, that is, taken hold of when needed, left out when
not needed). But in Sivasakti, there exists identical relationship with the Ultimate Lord. Kundalini sakti does exist in such relationship with Siva for the reason that it is a material cause only, just as the clay which is the material cause for the pot does not exist in identical
relationship with the potter.

I will speak about all That, listen Dear, established in Yoga, the uniting
space of Oneness with Me.Its real form and nature is without origin,
pure, pervading all and having faces everywhere. It is existing within all
living creatures and present in the hearts of all things, attained by yoga, difficult to accomplish, hard to attain for all beings.

This scripture on which this course is based is taken from the "Netra Tantram, ch 1", which belongs to the "Shaivagama" branch of the Hindu Scriptural tree.

Course Description

In the Shuddhatvaitam course, Bhagwan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam reveals three keys that will allow us to manifest all the Shaktis, or Powers, of Sadashiva. They are:

1. You are ultimate even as you are now. You are ultimate, even if you think you are under bondage as you are now. Even if you think you are manifesting all the wrong things, poverty, lack of resources, lack of joy, lack of good relationships, lack of love, health, completion, whatever, even if you think you are manifesting all this how can you be ultimate? Listen: all this, you are manifesting! So, you can manifest what you want; you are ultimate. Manifested can never be more powerful than manifester!

2. You need only your Will, Decision, Will Persistence to manifest powers and whatever you want.

3. Sadashiva comes to you as Guru to make these first two statements your reality."

In the Mahat Shuddhadvaitam course, Swamiji takes the experience to the next level by opening up the dimension of Kailaasa and having direct Darsha (sacred vision) of the place.

of all people.

This scripture on which this course is based is taken from the "srimad valmiki ramayana", which belongs to the "Ramayana" branch of the Hindu Scriptural tree.

Course Description

In this course on Pancha Tapas Yoga, the practitioner sits inside a circle of fire and enters into meditation.

Pancha Tapas Yoga gets its name from pancha agni or five fires, because participants sit in the circle with fire in the four directions (North, South, East & West) and the sun overhead forming the fifth fire.

There is a general misunderstanding that Pancha Tapas Yoga is performed as a prayaschita (repentance) for wrong actions. No! On the contrary, Pancha Tapas Yoga is a powerful process for creating and spreading positive energies on the planet.

When participants in the Pancha Tapas Yoga visualize the Omkara mantra in the anahata chakra (heart center), they allow the positive energies to radiate through the 21 end-points of the body (10 fingertips, 10 toes and the sahasrara chakra on the crown of the head).

Having noticed that certain rituals are being done in disagreeable and contrary way, the king who remains unmindful of such misdeeds going on in the temple would meet with decay and gradual destruction. There is no place for dispute or discussion in this regard. Therefore the king should arrange for the rituals to be fulfilled by a foremost Acharya who hails from the lineage of Adisaivas affiliated to five gocaras, who has deep knowledge in the Saivagamas, who has extensively studied them, who is expert in performing the rituals. If he does so, his entire country would flourish well in all respects. O, the foremost among the Sages!, the Guru or the supreme Acharya who is the foremost expert in the Saiva Sastras should be solicited for the performance of such rituals. Course Description

Bhagwan Sri Nithyananda Paramashivam has designed the Bachelor’s Degree in Living Enlightenment and shared it with the world to give a breakthrough in Superconsciousness - knowledge to manifest the state of Paramashiva, space of Paramashiva, powers of Paramashiva, being of Paramashiva and Superconsciousness of Paramashiva.

The Bachelors in Living Enlightenment program is designed for human beings who are seeking the ultimate purpose for which life happened on planet earth.

Participants of this program have the opportunity to live in an authentic Hindu campus and be initiated into the unique ‘Hindu Knowledge Transmission System’.

They have the opportunity, to get a glimpse of the mature conversations that Paramashiva had with his divine consort Devi and the Rishis and Munis who were eager to learn from His enlightened muscle-memory, bio-memory and bio-energy.

The 3600+ hours of learning content traverses across the six broad categories of Hindu Scriptures, namely;

  1. Sruti (Eg: Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita),
  2. Smriti (Eg: Manusmriti),
  3. Ithihasa (Eg: Mahabharata and Ramayana),
  4. Purana (Eg: Shiva Purana, Garuda Purana),
  5. Agama (Eg: Kamika Agama), and
