CANSI Ontario – XC Technical Director’s Report 2021-2022

2022 was another busy year for the Technical Committee. The focus was re-starting running courses across the country, and implementing the Technical and Teaching Guides and evaluation criteria/forms.

For Ontario, our early on snow courses were cancelled due to low snow conditions, so we had limited opportunities to evaluate the effectiveness of the new procedures. Despite that, we were able to give feedback and comments to the Technical Committee.

The Technical Committee also consulted with various experts from the xc racing community to determine how our technical assessment aligns with that of the elite racers. There was a good deal of discussion and similarities, and there will be continued discussions in the coming months.

Any suggested changes and modifications were discussed and evaluated, and those which were agreed upon are being implemented into next year’s guidelines.

There is the hope to have some sort of on-snow gathering next year, whether it be a National Seminar or a meeting of Technical Committee and higher level Course Conductors. The format and date are still under discussion.
