Rumble Back to Mother

(The Return of the Great Train Rumble)

This is the long awaited update on the Rumble Back to Mother and includes important information on the Rumble itself, the registration requirements, and most important, payment instructions.

The Return to Mother Rumble, is a Mother Hash 80th Anniversary Pre-Lube, Starting in Bangkok (yes, Thailand) and arriving in Kuala Lumpur in time for the first of the organized events.

You need to schedule your arrival in Bangkok for the morning of Saturday 8th September 2018, or even earlier if you wish to enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of this great city. Accommodations/expenses before the start of the Rumble on 8th September are to your account.

Rumble Timetable

Saturday 8th September 2018                          Bangkok

Sunday 9th September 2018                             Pattaya

Monday 10th September 2018                        Hua Hin

Tuesday 11th September 2018                        Hat Yai

Wednesday 12th September 2018                 Ipoh (Malaysia)

In each if the locations we will run with the local Hash Chapter, enjoying the best of the local hashing territory and hospitality.

Just to give you an initial flavour of the Rumble, here are the details

Saturday 8th Sept

You will get to your hotel in the Sukhumvit area of Thailand’s Capital in the afternoon. The run will start about 4:30pm, and will be a city “fun” run taking in some of the more “scenic” parts of this party town, and ending with consumption of amber nectar. Snacks will be provided, but dinner will be down to the individual.

Sunday 9th Sept

Depart mid-morning by coach to Pattaya (a beach town about 90 mins drive away) where we will go directly to the run site set by the Ban Chang Bar Crawlers H3 (BCBCH3). The run will start about 4pm and be in great hashing territory in the countryside around Pattaya. We will be having the On On at the runsite (Thai buffet) after which we will head back to Bangkok for a second night in The Ambassador Hotel, arriving about midnight. Plenty of time for the party animals to head out on the town.

Note: It was our intention to go by ferry to Hua Hin but the ferry is very unreliable, and a last minute cancellation would be a concern.

Monday 10th Sept

Depart the hotel late morning and head to Hua Lamphong Railway Station, and board the Rumble Train – first stop is Hua Hin . Mid-afternoon we run with CH3/H2H3 (Cha-Am/Hua Hin) in the hills around Hua Hin (Royal Seaside town).

After the run, and an on-site shower, we will head to a local restaurant (yes they make them big in Thailand) for the On On.

We will board the Rumble sleeper train about 10pm, and depart for Hat Yai

Tuesday 11th Sept

Arriving in Hat Yai in the morning, you will be taken to your hotel after which you will have time to explore the town before the run in the afternoon. Be back at the hotel for the transport to the run site.

Hat Yai Hash are our hosts and there are great runs in the hills and jungles (forests) not far out of town. The On On will also be hosted by H4, and we should be back at the hotel about 10pm

Wednesday 12th September

We will board the train from Hat Yai in the morning (unfortunately the short journey to the Thai/Malaysia border will be without Hash fuel – try explaining that the cases of beer are for medicinal purposes). We will stop briefly after the border to obtain essential supplies and head to Ipoh, half way down the Malaysian peninsular, arriving mid afternoon, and into a run amidst the limestone monoliths which dominate the countryside.

Overnight in a local hotel

Thursday 13th Sept

We depart Ipoh mid-morning, arriving in Kuala Lumpur early afternoon, and the end of the Rumble – and undoubtedly you will hear me repeat my words from the Great Train Rumble – “never again” – until the next time.

Our schedule will be such that you arrive in time for you to head to your own hotels, and prepare for the Green Dress Run that afternoon.

The various locations will include long, medium and short runs to suit all tastes and abilities. There will be short periods of “free time” at most locations, and I will provide you with a list of things you could do/see in the time available in later communications, as well as a detailed schedule for the various locations.

What’s included

1.           Hotels in Bangkok, , Hat Yai and Ipoh. These will be 4 star establishments, with breakfast included.

2.           Transportation. With the exception of Bangkok, and from the Kuala Lumpur Sentral Station (to your selected hotel) - all transport to/from the runsites will be provided. Excluded are any taxi or side trips you may want to take during your “spare” time.

3.           All meals, except lunches (except where indicated). We shall endeavor to provide a selection for all tastes. Evening meals will be provide at the On On’s and will generally be in the form of buffets. Those having dietary concerns will be catered for where possible – please provide details on the Registration Form attached.

4.           All run fee’s, and run goodies, including beer after the runs and at the On On.

5.           A goodie bag.

6.           Beers on the train, but not those on the coach due to legal constraints regarding booze on public transport in Thailand, but I’m working on that (can’t have too many “comfort” stops on the way home)

What’s Excluded

1.           Your travel costs to the hotel in Bangkok.

2.           Lunches (except where indicated)

3.           Your personal expenses

4.           Your taxi fare from Sentral Station in Kuala Lumpur, to your hotel.

5.           Obtaining any visa’s that you may require for travelling in either Thailand or Malaysia. Most countries are “visa on arrival” (without fee’s) in both countries – but it’s your responsibility to check.

The Rumble is open to all (yes you don’t need balls to Rumble) but due to constraints, we can only accommodate 300 pax, so its going to be first come first serve, with over 90% pre-reservations already made, you need to be quick if you haven’t already done so.

Those who were on the original “Rumble” – I believe, enjoyed the fun, the hardships, the runs, the comradery, the f*ck ups. A hard act to follow but I can only hope it will be as good.

I attach the REGISTRATION form which provides additional information, including method of payment, as well as the usual indemnity for you to fill in for the Rumble.

You will note that on the Registration form, there is a place to indicate who you will be sharing a room with (shares keep the costs down). Please also advise if you wish for twin bedded room or single (double bed) required.

For those who wish, there is an option to have single occupancy, but this will carry an extra cost as indicated. The supplemental costs will apply to four (hotel) nights.
