Hopelab strives to help create a world in which young people, in particular BIPOC and LGBTQ+ teens and young adults, are thriving, free from barriers to their mental health and well-being. We take a systems approach by using our unique research and youth-centered design capabilities, our financial capital, and our networks to positively shift the systems impacting teen and young adult mental health. Hopelab does this through a model of: impact investing; advisory services to investees, grantees, and other partner companies and organizations; and development of applied research to innovate in the fields of youth well-being, digital engagement and health equity.
The Position: Head of Research
The Head of Research supports Hopelab’s mission by serving as an expert in mental health, well-being, and positive development of adolescents and emerging adults; supporting design, implementation, and evaluation of technology-based products and services that support teen and young adult mental health and well-being; and, identifying collaborative opportunities with nonprofit, academic, and industry partners to advance measurement, widen impact, and conduct innovative translational science to promote thriving and health equity for young people.
Hopelab is at an exciting inflection point in its history where we are evolving our strategy for impact and refocusing our efforts to support health equity for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ teens and young adults. As an incoming member of Hopelab’s leadership team, the Head of Research has a meaningful opportunity to shape Hopelab’s strategic direction, the evolution of the research function, and make a significant positive impact on the mental health and well-being of teens and young adults across the country.
At its core, a successful Head of Research does the following:
Leads innovative research collaborations - Sources, scopes, and leads innovative and traditionally underfunded research collaborations that advance the field of teen mental well-being, with a focus on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ populations. Additionally, translates findings from our collaborative research efforts into Hopelab‘s process and our ability to positively impact partner organizations and teens.
Brings significant health and well-being subject matter expertise - Supports Hopelab’s impact investing and advising functions through identifying and scoping opportunities to accelerate strategic growth and impact for organizations working to address mental health and well-being inequities, as well as serving as a domain expert and team leader on advising teams.
Publicly represents Hopelab through strategic research communications - Represents Hopelab publicly through academic and popular writing, interviews, and presentations that highlight our collaborative efforts and our unique impact.
Centers youth in the art and science of research - Supports Hopelab‘s mission to promote thriving in young people by engaging with and incorporating youth voice into models of research and impact, sharing stories in ways that support youth impact, and helping to define strategies to evaluate impact with an equity and youth-participatory lens.
Adeptly leads and manages teams and individuals - Leads the Research department, providing strategic direction, coaching and supervision of three direct reports; serves as a member of one or more leadership teams; champions and advances DEI strategies across the organization and in the functional area(s) they oversee; stewards and role models the organization’s values and desired culture.
